Subject: SCSI CDROM on an IBM Thinkpad .. I can't make it work
Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 01:20:45 -0600

Here is a quick list of what I have:

- IBM Thinkpad 750Ce with the docking station (dock I)
- SCSI controler = Futrue Domain TMC 885 Base address 0xca000 irq 11
- CD-ROM is IBM, ID=3 LUN=0
- RH5.2

Ok, so the problem is that I can't mount the drive. Here is what
happens when I try:

# mount -t iso9660 -r /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom
scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 147, scsi0, channel 0, id

Request Sense 00 00 00 10 00
scsi0 host 0 abort (pid 157) timed out - resetting
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
Disc change detected.
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 0b:00 iso_blknum 16 block 32
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
or too many mounted file systems
SCSI CD error: host 0 id 3 lun 0 return code = 18000002
oSense class 0, sense error 0, extended sense 0

Sometimes it will work. Most of the time it doesn't and I get these
error messages.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
BR

I can't configue my soundcard (a PCI168 from Aztech).
Can anybody help me ? I don't know IRQs, DMAs, etc.

My Linux is RedHat 5.1.

Yes, the K6-2 400MHz uses the newer CXT core (or is it CTX...) that
adds about 10% in speed. for $50 extra, I say go with the 400MHz
part.

Dear Khalid,

I have the suspend/resume problem you described! What exactly did you do to
make it work? I have a toshiba 465CDX. I am running RedHat 5.1.
Can you email me the driver or module you used? Or kernel perhaps?
Or lines or code you changed? I would really like to have the suspend/resume
feature work. Can I just type a command that will kill the cards so that it can
resume before I do a suspend? It is very sad that nobody has fixed this
in the RH distributions. (Seems like Debian might have been a better choice
in this respect.)

You are right, the 50MHz costs about $50USD, but you also get the new
CTX core that adds about 10% comparied to the old core at 400MHz.

For $154 you can't beat the K6-2 400MHz

use the pots for any type of modem connection. Netgear supports nothing

The rt328 can do dhcp (using NAT) and it can do full routing of TCP/IP
only. I have done both. I use it for IP's mostly and its fine.

*Stable basically means it didn't crash on me while running the 'usual'
applications, e.g. under Win98 - Excel, Internet Explorer, Unreal or
Linux - X-Windows, xv, Netscape while up for a minimum of 4 hours.
However, under Linux, there was no way I could complete a kernel compile
without the infamous sig11 fault.
If anyone has got a clean kernel compile with this configuration at any
setting or has any ideas on what to play with next, I'd dearly love to
hear from them. I played with DRAM settings in BIOS but to no avail.
Tks.

I had the same problem. I ahve a linksys 10/1000 (PNIC CHIP) and it
worked fine with tulip .83 and linux 2.031. After that the
identification of the card changed in 2.032 or higher and the network
dirver failed to load. I have since gotten an Inel pro/100. No worries
there. Go to http://www.atipa.com/ They sell systems pre laoded with
NT, Linux or freeBSD. Check the nics they sell and get one. They all
are supported by all three OSs out of the box.

Hi,

for quite a while i get the following error message on a linux box:

I assume that disk is bad, unfortunately this is the boot disk. Is there
a way to replicate the disk to a new one, replace it with the new one
without installing Linux new?

Thanks for pointing out such a simple, but easy to overlook problem!

Now at least the XF68_FBdev server starts . . . but fails soon after with

Could it be that my Paradise Pipeline 64 card with Westrn Digital 9710 Chip is
