Should work with same SVGA server, as the server is looking
for nVidia TNT chipset, not specific manufacturer brand.
When you set it up, look for "RIVA TNT" as your Video card
type in the list.

You might try this post in comp.periphs.scsi. But something
else to try is to NOT use auto-termination on your 3940.
Try setting the Host termination manually to ON or OFF.
Seems like on some cards, the auto-termination doesn't
work quite correctly all the time.

Hi,
I've bought PCI 64 sound card from Creative Labs, and I can't manage to
install it under Linux. I've got Red Hat 5.1 with kernel 20.35.
Does anyone know how to install it ?
I know that this question has already been asked, but I haven't seen any

Dear Folks,
I'm looking for a home printer to do *good* photo printing and I'm
looking at the Epson 700, it seems a good machine, but there are two
questions: a) is it as good as the brochure reproduction (which does
look rather good), or is there a better comparably priced machine; b)
I'm intending it to be used from Linux predominantly so is it easy for
it to print plain text as well and can I print pictures from the GIMP
onto it? i.e. is it well supported under Linux, or is it a nightmare to
print to?
Any help would be appreciated.

What does the linux fdisk say???
I think that first 4M partition is the problem... your BIOS looks for your OS
starter (eg. lilo)in the MBR of the first partition of the first drive. Since it
isn't a DOS drive, you should check if it is a Linux native drive. If so, back
it up and reformat it to be FAT16. If it isn't anything at all (not formatted)
you can just boot dos, claim it using fdisk and format it. ( PROBABLY format c:,
check first or make a complete backup of your drive) lilo should install on it
now.
The easiest (?) way to get things to work is to completely repartition your
drive, since Dos reports having 3080 MB in the second (extended?)partition. But
this takes some time and you REALLY have to backup things you made yourself or
things you can't get your hands on again when it is deleted. Then you have
reinstall everything (this is the time consuming part). If you have enough
space left on the drive you should consider using partition magic, but still
BE CAREFUL it is very easy to mess things up ( as i know from experience :-) ).

Your BIOS has nothing to do with your partitioning it just needs to know the
physiscal parameters of your drive correctly.

G'day folks,
I'm going to get linux sometime in the next few days but I just want
to know if I will have any compatibility problems BEFORE I try to install it
into a system that wont work. The system I have is:
celeron 300A
64M 100Mhz SDRAM
ABIT BX motherboard
monster fusion 16M agp vid card
5.1G hdd (brand unknown)
pioneer 32X cd-rom
10/100 ethernet card (brand unknown)
k56felx external modem
adi 4v 14inc monitor
Are all of these compatible with linux, and if not, which bits aren't? All
help is greatly appreciated. I'm going to try to install linux myself, but I
didn't want to start off on the wrong foot.
yours appreciatively

I'm a newbie myself, but when I had a similar problem I fixed it by
adjusting the vertical size and position knobs on my monitor. I still
have to make minor adjustments when moving in and out of Xwindows, but
at least I'm up and running.

I agree with you; the control key belongs on the home row. In fact, I
think the use of caps lock should be banned world wide. You are aware
of the fact that you can easily remap your broken keyboard to behave
the way you want to, right? I even think that you can change just one
line in your /etc/XF86Config to swap places of caps lock and control.
Other physical key placements are more annoying on these types of
keyboards, however.
Followups slightly trimmed.

Hi all,
I've been trying to get LILO to work on my Hard Drive
for 2 days now without any success ..so maybe someone
can help me ...Here is my problem ...
I have an IBM DeskStar 16GP 10.1Go (UDMA33) on which
I have a primary Dos partition (of 5Go) declared as
FAT32, that holds my win98 system. I want to install
Linux RedHat 5.2 on the remaining 5Go.
* When I start the RedHat 5.2 installation ..it detects
only 1024 cylinders (out of the 1232) and thus I only
have 8Go. To solve this problem I start the
installation with the parameter hda=1232,255,63 and
that works fine ....but can anyone tell me why I have
to pass this argument ?
* After I have finished the installation, the system
ask me where I want to put Lilo ... and I answer on
the MBR of hda. When I reboot to start ..... LILO
stops right after the first L without any error code
... so I don't know what's happening .....
Do I put the LILO at the wrong place ? Is there a
compatibility problem with my Hard Drive ?
* The only way I can start is to boot from a floppy..
then I can access to the partition table :
Part | Type | Size | Mounted as
===========================================
hda1 | Fat32 | 5Go | /DosC
hda3 | Linux Native | 3Go | /usr/local
hda5 | Linux Native | 2Go | /
hda6 | Swap | 127Mo |
- Why isn't there a hda2 ?
- I use Disk Druid and I can't make a big Linux Native
partition of 5Go. I have to split in smaller

You may try using xvidtune. This utility allows you to change setting in X
rather than you monitor. It is not that hard to use once you get use to it
and it works pretty well.
