According to AMD the K7 will support SMP. Checkout http://www.amd.com

Use cfdisk to partition your disk. fdisk always uses actual geometry where
cfdisk can use apparent geometry. This will then allow lilo and other boot
programs to work. fdisk is antiquated.

According to the card I recieved with my SCSI ZIP drive it is a AVA-1502I. I

The problem does indeed lie with the Zip-zoom SCSI adapter. However it's
not an insoluble problem. Because it's a very cut-down SCSI card there
are no BIOS hooks so you need an append line in your boot configuration.
>From the lilo.conf file for my old system there was a line like:
append="aha152x=0x340,12,7,1"
The factory base address is 0x140 with a jumper to change to 340, I
think I may have also changed the IRQ from the default because of a
clash -- the manual should tell you what jumpers to fiddle with to
change which settings (at least the edition from mid 1997 did).

Hope that helps.

I don't have any network cards or 3D accelerators, nor more to the point do I
have any top surface space to spare, so an external made no sense to me.

But if I were doing it again I'd get an external, perch it on top of the UPS,
and just find someplace else to stack the CDs.

   I have problems with Diamond SpeedStar A50 (SiS 6326) + Amptron CS17.

The best solution I found was to turn acceleration off (there are two
options you have to
take care of in order to turn ALL acceleration off). In order to do so I
had to edit Xconfig
by hand. As a result I have two (really, one) modes which is enough for
my purposes.

If anyone know how to do better - will be glad to learn!

Like a previous poster said, this isn't really a problem. I encountered the
same thing when setting up my 8.4gb drive, which used EZ-Bios to manage it.
The message is simply information that Linux's fdisk is giving you to be aware
of the 1024 cylinder issue. Just partition your drive so that the boot
partition is within the first 1023 cylinders. Linux won't have a problem.

The facts:

1) The modem is not a Winmodem
2) I've verified on the web that others have successfully got it to run
with Linux
3) I've used isapnp on it -- appears to set the modem up correctly
4) Running RH 5.1
5) Read every How-to I can find
6) It still won't run

Anyone here using this modem?

Hi Johnny!

I think you haven't even partitioned your hard disk.
So you might want to start from that. If you need help with it
consult me for further instructions.

The box says, "3Com U.S. Robotics 56K* Faxmodem" and "Model No. 5687". The
modem does *not* have jumpers. See another posting from me in this thread, in
which I quote communication from 3Com support: I appear to have the jumperless
Model 00568702, but there's no way to tell that from the outside of the box.

To add to the mystery, the asterisk on 56K* references a footnote that says "See
side panel for details". The same footnote appears on 5 of the 6 sides of the
box; I cut off the 6th side -- an end flap -- to remove the product code to
claim the rebate so I don't know what it said there. Whatever. It does log on
to Mindspring at 53.3K virtually every time and I almost never get drop-outs.
Neither have I received the rebate.

That does appear to be the case. He ought to get his money back.
