I have done that to keep a few pentiums from stoping, and even my K6-200
It could be the CPU not cooling fast enough or something else on the board that it's
getting
offset by the heat released by the CPU

I got several responses, and enough inquiries to know there are people
interested in this combination.

I am not sure how much help this is, but here's my current status.
I got the box back from the people I purchased it from. They don't
support Linux so they had to load W98 to test. First they replaced the
MB, then the drive, and finally the PII/350 chip. The last seemed to
resolve their problem.

I got the box back and Redhat 5.2 (kernel 2.0.36) seems to load fine.
The splashes indicate the correct SCSI, and the AIC7xxx driver is
loading. I am not getting any CRC errors and everything seems ok now,
but I'm a little nervous that I'm not checking/testing something to
insure everything is ok.
There is a reference in errata to an updated AIC7xxx driver, but I get
refused access when I try to find the update (redhat.com). This leaves
me with a couple remaining questions:
1) Am I safe to assume that if Linux can see the drive (and I'm no
longer getting CRC errors) that everything is ok?
2) How do I determine if I have the "updated" AIC7xxx, or is AIC7xx the
updated driver they are referring to?
3) How and where do I get updated drivers in the future?

Thanks.

In fact, for many distro boot/install disks, you can use another
linux (or other Unix) system to create those disks from downloaded .img
files:
        $ dd if=boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k

So the spawn of MS need never stain your pristine equipment!

Hi Orm (and All),

I'am experimenting exactly the same problems with a modem Mutli-Mobile
MT5634ZLXI.
But , I think I'am in a worst situation than you...

The pcmcia modem card is identified by Linux as an "anonymous"
device...typical to Win modems....

I modified the /etc/pcmica/config to load the "serial_cs" module instead of
the default one "memory_cs". The "cardmgr" still complains with this module
saying the device is temporarly unavailable....

Any more clue?
To you suspect we need a specific module for this modem?
Multi-Tech does not provide yet Linux drivers for this modem?
Anybody heard something about the availability od such a driver?

Thanks all,

Luc

Yes I am sure that it is compiled with the PS/2 mouse support (that is I
selected to support mice and then chose the PS/2 mouse option) I also made
modules of the other mice, but they do not work either. Any suggestions?

Are you using the right device name? I think when you enable the
scsi emulation so the /dev/sg* (generic) device works for writing
the mountable device changes from /dev/hd* (ide) to /dev/scd* like
a SCSI unit. Try using /dev/scd0.

I had a similar problem, however on my system the mouse worked intermittantly.
(sp?) Sometimes the mouse would work when the server satarted up, sometimes
not. I got into the habit of making sure it worked before logging in from
XDM. If it didn't, I just hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace until it did.

(No, gpm was not running.)

kernel v2.0.36 _doesn't_ know the correct size, and won't believe you if
you tell it the correct size, if the number of heads is > 16 as would
usually be the case with LBA enabled. (Ref: Large-Disk mini HOWTO
and my own experience.) kernel v2.2.0 and higher are OK in this regard.

fdisk gets part of its info from the kernel and part directly from the
drive.
fdisk v2.8 (shipped with RH5.2) gets confused with LBA large drives.
fdisk v2.9i fixes the problem.

Forgive me for being slightly critical, but no LINUX system, or indeed, any

And works correctly ... So I think that it's a SCSI compatibility pb.
