        Hi,
I picked up an adapter so that I can run my old Northgate keyboard off
the PS/2 port on my new machine. The problem is everything is slow with
the AT keyboard pluged in. Linux boots slow. X runs slow. Basically it
is slow. Now the crappy PS/2 keyboard that came with the system doesn't
show these problems so I'm thinking it might be the adaptor? Or am I
just expecting too much in wanting to run my old keyboard?

Thanks

Since you're using RedHat, you might want to take a look at the
HowTo they've put together on this subject - the URL is

http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/XFree86-upgrade.html

and they have a lot of other helpful info links in
http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/ as well.
I updated my system (I have the same card, but with 16M memory, and
the old drivers didn't recognize the large memory) following that
howto, and it worked like a charm.

Not everyone is as lucky as you. It's possible that he made it
overcomplicated, but it's also very possible that you've
oversimplified. He probably does not have the same hardware as
you. In fact, I have heard of people having problems with a
similar driver to the one he mentioned. RedHat doesn't have
support for EVERY network card under the sun - and that's why he
had to get it from the hardware vendor, probably.

The original poster, although he didn't provide enough information,

it on, it sets in high quality mode. I am using it under windows (with
no problems) and under linux (with bj200 device with ghostscript) where
I have to manually change the printing mode to draft (HS: High Speed?)
Does anyone have the manual or knows wich commands to send the printer
so it will switch to draft mode before each printing job? And second,
how do I include this commands in the filter file?

Thank you very much,

Hello,
I have a ZIp question that may be useful to the group. If you don't
use or know jaZip please disregard.

I am trying to compile the jaZip interface for my RedHat5.2 system. I think I
don't know what to
do to "configure the Makefile" (I'm a newbie) Also, I think that the program
may be broken by recent Linux distributions libraries. (this message* to the
Debian list strongly suggests a problem exists) What I am wondering do you
(anyone) have this program in a working state on a current distribution?

I have rebuilt the kernel so that my Zip is used under SCSI emulation. All
works fine from the command line. I downloaded the jaZip program from
http://www.scripps.edu/~jsmith/jazip/ . I downloaded and installed Xforms
-0.88 lib via RPM. Two other programs --MTV (mpegtv) and xwGui (a interface
to a printfilter)-- are using it OK. I then enter some configuration details in

the jazip.h file as suggested in the README. I then type make and I'm told that
the main.c program cannot find
something called forms.h. OK, that is probably something included in Xforms.88.

But the other programs (which were binary rpms) use xforms ok. The make
attempt returns just this brief exit/error statement
:gcc -O -m486 -c main.c -o main.o
main.c:13: forms.h: No such file or directory

Looking for forms.h on my system I find only "form.h " a link to ncurses. In
/jaZip-.030/main.c I replace forms.h with form.h and then try make again:
gcc -O -m486 -c main.c -o main.o
In file included from main.c:17:
jazip.h:49: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:50: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:51: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:52: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:53: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:54: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:55: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:56: parse error before `*'
jazip.h:57: parse error before `*'
and so on
So at lest it doesn't bail out at the top because forms.h can't be found
anymore, but the build fails for some other reason(s). Am i not understanding
how to setup the program so it compiles or is the program really broken by
being out of synch with its required libraries?
===============================
* --excerpt from the message from Peter Galbraith to the Debian list:
This is strange. Just before new years I could compile jazip (a
package I'm working on) and now it fails. I'm running hamm with

I'd appreciate any ideas as to what's wrong:

$ gcc -O -m486   -c mount_z.c -o mount_z.o

Shop around. There's considerable variation in pricing for equivalent
hardware, with or without Linux pre-installed. Pre-installation is
*very* helpful if the vendor will listen to your needs and customize
accordingly.

OK, I loaded RH 5.2 and got everything set up except for the networking
part. RH setup couldn't detect the card. It is a D-Link DFE-530TX (not a
card that RH recognizes). So I went poking around on the web and newsgroups
and found a link that took me to the C++ code (the via-rhine.c file).
Here's where my troubles began. What exactly do I do with this?

Again, RH 5.2 didn't help as it couldn't see the card.

I'd like to get this box set up for the network soon, as I plan to install
either Cable Modem access or ADSL soon, and I want this to be my gateway/web
server/mail server/whatever else I can think of.

Thanks!

The drive on my Linux sever is starting to make funny sounds after running

Two drive related questions:

A) I just picked up a 13.1 Gig Drive(Western Digital if that matters). The
instructions say I have to use the EZ-Drive software before the drive will
work. Is this actually required for Linux or just Winblows? If not, is
there anything special I need to know to get it to work in Linux?

B) Is there are good drive copying software that works under Linux? The
setup and software I have works flawlessly now. I **CAN** re-install and
configure everything, but I'd rather not. In the Windows world, DriveImage
and DriveCopy are available. Is there anything similar in the linux world?

Thanks!
