I don't know the answer off the top of my head, but I know that this has
been answered before...if you search www.dejanews.com you should be able to
find it. I have an internal scsi zip and I could never get it to work with
modprobe I finally had to compile it into the kernel.

Be very careful with that : some of your screen's connections are bad
(that's why you have to "shake" them so they work). Impossible to fix.
If your laptop is garanteed, I think you'd better have it changed.
Otherwise, the more you stress the screen (tapping on the screen, even
closing/opening it) might make it work less and less.

What this means is that the kernel has been compiled with the work
around in it...but if you wan to know more I am sure that you could go
to www.intel.com and find the answer in there.

weird...usually zip disk are on the 4 partition...I have two disk and
both mount on /dev/sda4 (I have a scsi adapter)...I suspect that the one
mounting on the hdd4 is correct, but there maybe something wrong with the
one mounting on hdd1....have you tried the Zip how to it may have some

Can't say anything about long-term -- I just got an NP7200-E from them two
weeks ago. I'm running SuSE 6.0 with the 2.2.1 kernel, and everything
seems to work just fine except the APM -- and I'm still playing with that.
I went with the base configuration and added a Linksys ethernet card and
3com modem seperately. I find the 13.3 inch screen works well for 1024 X
768 Xwindows.

I just used fips off the SuSE CD to shrink the Win98 partition, dropped
SuSE in, and ran.

Note: I changed CDROM drives and get the same thing so this may be
related to the 2940 having SCSI-UW and SCSI-2 interfaces.

there are a lot of people out there do not know about the non support

is impossible and i don't go for the quick fixes by just buying
something. if i don't succeed at least i tried. NG's used to be for
support and hopefully we can keep them that way.

I am going to take a stab here and guess that you have tried using
XF86Config and then at some point tried Xconfigurator after using the
other utility. If this is the case then the reason you are not seeing
the change in results when you rerun the config utilties is because
the two utility write their config files to different locations. I
believe that the xf86config program will write the config file to a
directory that comes first in your path and will always be discovered
first no matter how many times you run Xconfigurator after that. What
you have to do is run this command before redoing any more
Xconfiguration:

find / -name XF86Config -exec rm -fv {} \;

which will delete any and all copies of your X-Windows configuration
files. Then rerun the configuration utility of your choice. If
RedHat is detecting this Chipset on your video card at all, you should
be able to eventually get it working with Xconfigurator. However, I
would first download the XFree86 updates from ftp://updates.redhat.com
under their redhat 5.2 directory (even if you are running redhat 5.1
they will still work beautifully) and then install them using the
command:

rpm -Uvh XFree86*.rpm

in whatever directory you saved the updated RPMs to. This will
upgrade your XServer and possibly even list your monitor in the
monitors listing. Just make sure you get all the associated files
that go along with XFree86 like the font rpms, and the Xconfigurator
updates, etc...

Good Luck.

If you compile version alpha 3 of X11 Amp under this kernel version,
it seems to run fine. If you are using a previous version of X11 Amp
that was compile from a previous kernel version, and then just
upgraded your kernel, you are going to have problems. Please, when
you upgrade your kernel, get the latest version of winamp from sources
and recompile on your system. It should run fine after that. If I
had the time to figure out how to build RPMs, I would make binaries
available for people running redhat 5.x, but I assume building these
things is harder than it really is. ;-)

Also, fill in the necessary DNS entry's in the KPPP front-end, even when
your provider is only uses proxy! Mail him to get the right DNS entry's.
That worked for me!
