Hello,

My name is Richard Nelson, and I am a Technical support engineer for
Actiontec Electronics, INC

We do have a PCI modem that is NOT a "Win" modem, it is controller based,
and uses the Lucent Venus chipset.

I need as much help as I can possibly get for this, as I would like it to
become the first officially supported PCI modem for Linux, and I repeat,
it IS CONTROLLER based, NOT windows based, etc....

My direct number is 408-548-4772
and my email address is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thank you

They've got the new orb drives out now. 199 for the drive with one disk.
additional disks are 30 bucks. Each holds 2.2 GB of info. Yeah 2.2GB for
only 30 bucks.
www.computability.com has the parallel, scsi and ide.
Pretty sure one the scsi and parallel. I think they have the ide version.
USB version coming soon. But in order to get the output that the orb can
give you you should go with scsi.

There's a hardware HOWTO at
"http://doc.rmplc.co.uk/linux/LDP/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO.html"
It includes a PCMCIA list.

Subject: Does Teles S0/PCI - Tj ISDN card work on Linux 2.0.36

Has anyone got the Teles S0/PCI card to work with linux?.

Have been trying to get the hisax driver to recognize the card (Teles
S0/PCI) but to no avail.

The isdn subsystem is compiled as modules then tried

/sbin/modprobe hisax protocol=2 type=21
(type=21 being Teles PCI does this refer to the Teles S0/PCI or to
something else?)

to check if the drivers recognize the card. But all I got was this:

ISDN subsystem Rev: 1.44.2.9/1.41.2.11/1.48.2.27/1.28.2.2/1.8.2.2 loaded
TelesPCI: No PCI card found
HiSax: Card Teles PCI not installed !
/lib/modules/2.0.36/misc/hisax.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
ISDN-subsystem unloaded

Anybody have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Any help will be greatly
appreciated. TIA.

More Info:

more /proc/pci shows:

PCI devices found:
  Bus 0, device 15, function 0:
    Network controller: Unknown vendor Tiger300 ISDN (rev 0).
      Medium devsel. IRQ 10. Master Capable. Latency=8.
      I/O at 0xe800.
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xe7000000.

Compiled the kernel with the '.config' with ISDN options as below:

#
# ISDN subsystem
#
CONFIG_ISDN=m
CONFIG_ISDN_PPP=y
CONFIG_ISDN_MPP=Y
CONFIG_ISDN_AUDIO=Y
CONFIG_ISDN_DRV_LOOP=M

CONFIG_HISAX_16_0=Y
CONFIG_HISAX_16_3=Y
CONFIG_HISAX_TELES3C=Y
CONFIG_HISAX_TELESPCI=Y
CONFIG_HISAX_S0BOX=Y

Once again TIA.

Have you set up the modem using the 'Control Panel' in X?
Better yet, do a Web search for ezppp which will make the
set-up relatively pain free.

Yowza-let's try that again:

I'm having the same problem (that is to say, my ethernet card suddenly
decided that it was busy every time I try to insert the module, although it
still works under windows.) I am not using a custom kernel, just a stock RH
5.2 one, and it worked fine in the past...I have done no low-level driver
type stuff and have not changed any hardware.

now-

To attempt a solution, I compiled a new kernel, making sure that I had the
appropriate option selected as "module", and no other ethernet devices
included at all. I still got the same message when trying to insert the
module manually, or just start the eth0 interface:
/lib/modules/2.0.36/net/3c501.o: init_module: Device or resource busy eth0
initialization delayed

Next, I compiled a new kernel making sure that I had the appropriate option
selected as part of the kernel (not a module). Now, when I start the
interface, the message is just: eth0 initialization delayed

so-

I read the HOWTO-Ethernet:

3) After booting, do a cat /proc/ioports and verify that the full
  iospace that the card will require is vacant.

I don't really understand what this means, but I can follow directions, so I
did this.  The HOWTO continues:

 If you are at 0x300 then
  the ne2k driver will ask for 0x300-0x31f. If any other device driver
  has registered even one port anywhere in that range, the probe will
  not take place at that address and will silently continue to the next
  of the probed addresses. A common case is having the lp driver reserve
  0x378 or the second IDE channel reserve 0x376 which stops the ne
  driver from probing 0x360-0x380.

indeed, their was an IDE channel at 376. Unfortunately, the HOWTO did not
say what to do about this problem. I'll RTFM, I just need some context for
what steps I need to take to fix this (it this is indeed what is causing the
problem)

Thanks in advance-Ben

Don't use AMDK6 if you don't want to mess in crasy problems.

About the MMX support I may suggest you looking in the Bogomips howto.
I enclose twos rate speed for Pentium200 with and without MMX

Pentium/200              81.92 bogomips
Pentium MMX/200         400.59 bogomips

Interprete yourself but read the howto!

Hi,

In response to the replies I recieved from my previous message, could
someone answer the following few questions:
(again, I excuse my ignorance - correct me if I'm wrong :-)

Is there any driver that would work with a Sound Blaster Live? - I don't
mind using an old driver that doesn't make full use of the facilities,
because I will be using sound mostly from win95.

Will I be able to use an LS-120 floppy drive from linux - more
importantly, will I be able to boot from it?

And finally, assuming no problems with the above, can anyone tell me if
I'm going to have any obvious trouble running linux with the following
spec:

Pentium II 350MHz
ABIT BX6 motherboard
Panasonic LS-120
Maxtor DiamondMax 4320 8.4Gb
Creative Labs CL 36x CD-ROM drive
Sound Blaster Live
Graphics Blaster RIVA TNT
3-COM 3C-509B combo ISA network card

Thanks very much in advance...

I can't run startx with my 'Cirrus Logic Laguna 3D 5465 rev2" graphic
card.
The server starts properly but after a while, because of the mouse it
stops.
The screen is frozzen and the cursor has gone.

I have installed RH5.2-fr and upgraded XFree up to 3.3.3-1.1 without
benefit.

I tryed also as it is recommended in README_SVGA to enable options like

'fifo_conservative', "noaccel", "no_bitblt" or "sw_cursor' in the
XF86Config file.

I had nothing wrong in X's messages, neither in /var/log/messages

If someone knows a mean to quit X, when 'ctrl alt del'

doesn't match, it would spare me a lot of time!!!
