Hi,
I'm not familiar with SuSE but I did manage to get my i740 working with
RedHat 5.2 Kernel 2.2.5 From the XFree web site I was able to download the
XBF_i740 rpms, followed the destructions and installed it, now I have 1024x768
at 24bpp.

Hope this helps you

Troy.

Why should he ? This is (as can be easily verified by a quick
search on DejaNews on that topic) a card that has been supported for
at least 2 years now, with either the standard ISA NE2000 od the newer
ne2k-pci driver.

Thanks for backup we use a DLT tape drive, and we have an APC UPS. The part
which bothers me most is the Supermicro motherboard. I haven't heard good
things about it. That's why we consider putting another server that could
easily take over in case of failure of the primary one.

Subject: Werid RH 5.2/Qt/DHCP problem
Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 22:44:44 -0400

I ran into a very strange problem with a new RH 5.2
installation yesterday that I'm still trying to
figure out. I've run RH 5.1 + Qt 1.42 + DHCP
on another system, so I can't see what the problem
is. The details:

Install RH 5.2 on a bare drive, set up DHCP (which
I have to use for unrealted reasons), all works fine,
including networking.

Add Qt 1.42, and the system will hang for approx.
1 min. and 20 seconds at two spots--just after
starting DHCP, and when starting sendmail. The
boot finishes, but networking is disabled.

If I uninstall Qt 1.42, the boot delays disappear and
the networking works again.

Since I need Qt 1.42 to run KDE, this is a pretty
serious problem.

Suggestions, anyone?

When I had similar symptoms (albeit with a SB Awe 64 under Windows)
where cd music was fine but other sound was distorted. What it ended
up being was the the irq of the card was set to 10 and that didn't work
well with my motherboard for some reason. I ended up disabling
motherboard PnP since my sound card was isa PnP. Maybe you do
something similar on your to make that particular irq off limit to pci
devices.

What do you mean the HP system won't read it???
If it is a working HP-UX drive you should be able to mount and read it on most
HP-UX (or other sys V unixs) if you are trying to read it with a HP PC
(netserver or whatever) then your problem is that the OS (M$) is not compatable
(complain to Bill Gates) and using linux should be a fine help.

If the drive is damaged - you need specialized help from someone who knows
disaster recovery.

Subject: Re: LILO Install
Date: Sun, 25 Apr 1999 20:10:36 -0400

are you in linux now ?
if you are then (as the first poster mentioned) check /etc/lilo.conf &
do a man lilo.conf to make sure all is as you'd like it. i'll assume
that the reason you didn't install lilo in the setup was because you're
running another OS (there can be no other reason, unless you REALLY like
booting off floppies). if this is the case and that other OS is win9x
then you should make sure that lilo.conf contains the win9x partition
info, ie where it is (hda1 or something along those lines) so you can
boot into it if desired.
if you're not in linux right now you'll have to use a boot disk to get
back into it, the install disk you used, the boot disk you created
during the install or any other will probably do. once into linux check
lilo.conf & the run lilo -v to enable & install it.

if you don't have a boot disk you can create one using rawrite & a copy
of an img file (check redhat for help & the boot.img, supp.img files,
they're on the cdrom as well, under images, rawrite is under dosutils,
or something like that).

if you don't have lilo installed under linux (i've no idea how you could
not install it, but anything is possible ;) ) try & find a copy or rpm,
though i doubt there's a lilo rpm out there.

good luck, let me know if you've any questions or problems, or
successes...

Linux would be an excellent choice for the task. Just set up SAMBA on the
linux box to share the CD-ROM drives. If you have to interact with NT
Domains be sure to look for info on Samba v2 (www.samba.org) I don't have
any dedicated CD-ROM servers, but I have used SAMBA quite successfully to
share the CD drive on several of my machines. (The file-share services
with linux/samba perform quite a bit better than my NT boxes, I might add)
Hope this helps,
Jeff

Hi,

If it's a SPARCprinter that is from Sun, then you can't.

The port on the printer isn't a serial or parallel (even though it
looks like one). The printer is more like a direct raster (graphics)
device. You need the Sun LPVI SBUS card in a Sun to drive it, and
running under SunOS or Solaris.

If you have all of this othher hardware, then take a look at:

   http://www.db.fmi.uni-passau.de/~claussen/Unix/SPARCprinter.html

to see how to get it going under Solaris 2.6 & GhostScript.

I have exactly the same setup as you.
Download the latest copy of XSVGA.tgz (or SVGA server) from the
XFree86 site.
untar it (tar -zxvf XSGVA.tgz) in /usr/X11R6,
edit your XF86Config file,
edit the section for "My Video Card"
Make sure there is no clockchip setting,
Videoram setting is correct and not commented out
Should work ok
