This is what to expect from this device from all I've heard. Reading responces
to the announcement on Slashdot.org, most people have experienced this
problem. Only a few so far have found it works well, and who knows why. If
only CL would releace the souce code, the linux comminity could take over it's
development, and it would be done in a couple of weeks, possibly better than
the windows driver. Oh well, here is to hoping.

Not really: It is not going to be that soon. (By that time I will probably
be running Hurd...)

BUT, don't you think that by that time more law-abiding citizens (who can
not e.g. change the size of disk cache in Netscape) will be running Linux?
And that microsoft and other species will be writing applications for Linux
platform? I am not sure you want to bet.

If you have a spare time for this sort of things, you can stay PSN-free
even running IE under windows on pentium III, but common people are not
computer wizards.

I do not agree with you: OK, they will learn that I prefer Beavis and Butthead
and South Park to any other cartoon and that I do not watch baseball; I do not
mind. But having access to a PSN, they might know about _every hit of a key_
one makes. In two years, this will reveal everything about one's life: the
favorite drug store, kids' school, one's travel plans, day's schedule... And
this all would be linked to a particular individual (driver's license #.....).
There is a lot more; this is just from the top of my head.

This is called invasion of privacy or something.

Hello Everybody,

I have a Sears SR2000 printer which is both parallel and serial as well as
comadore and IBM compatible. It's in brand new shape, but I don't have the
manual to know how to set the dip switches. There are two banks. One is
inside by the centronics connector (4 switches all set to off) and one by
the front control panel (8 switches with 3,6, & 8 on).

Any help would be appreciated. Please email at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have any information.

TIA,

Hi koz,
Assuming that `soft' refers to software modem (with no controller),
you'd need a new one.

Is it listed here?
http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html

Even if it isn't, you're about 95% sure it will work (but don't hold me
responsible for the other 5% :). My external Phoebe V1456VQE also
"required w95", and it works great in Linux.

Most obvious followup questions would be:

1. How much memory do you have on this machine? How much is
recognized? (cat /proc/meminfo)
2. What kind of video card do you have on this machine, and what X
server do you have installed?

Hi there,

got a difficult problem with a COMPAQ DESKPRO XL590 (PENTIUM 90 / 32
MB-RAM) concerning SCSI-Ctrl.
Sometimes it happens that the partition-table of my Harddisk is lost.
Maybe someoneelse has had this too. It may be very usefull to have some
comments or help about this issue.

Ok, COMPAQ's Deskrpro XL's are using an onboard SCSI-Ctrl. ( AM57C947 ).
During installation there's a TECRAM SCSI-Device-driver detected (tsmsci
). So what happen is, if you have a look at syslog you'll see :
Kernelpanic .... . System is working fine at that moment. But, if
shuting down for reboot, system doesn't come up again cause of missing
systemtable on HD.

If there's anyone out there who had this seen before or heard about
that, be so nice contact via email at : [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In advance and thank' a lot

I'm afraid not. The problem seems to be nothing to do with monitor
configuration. We can't even start X, let alone running xvidtune :-(

I think we need a new XCom_SiS for RedHat 6.0. We run well on different
machines using same configuratuon, and the only differences is XCom_SiS.

Using the current version of XCom_SiS we keep getting xfs error like
"UNIX:/7100" socket error. Maybe XCom_Sis can't handle new xfs
correctly. Any idea?

Seems you all are working against me though.
Guess I gave up drinking to soon. Is it really to

I know it's that WINDOWS thing isn't it.
