Maybe your voltage regulator cannot cope with the amount of amps the
processor needs. You should check it's temperature. There should be
numerous webpages concerned with the topic of replacing vregs w/ more
powerful ones, but I do not know any. Meet your favorite search

If you have SCSI disks algready running then:
shutdown, connect MO, boot, insert MO-disk, mount, done

I am not recommending Adaptec SCSI cards to Mike, as they are not
cheap, I am addressing the comment about Adaptec SCSI card and stable
SMP Linux installations.
I have a dual P-II 400 working without a hitch using an Adaptec 2940UW.
The setup was easy, SCSI card was auto detected, and the system has
been running stable for a while now - working as a DNS, WWW, mail,
and FTP server.

Another good recommendation is the Mylex BT-950. These enjoy very good
linux support and only cost about $100.
Avoid Adaptec cards. The drivers tend to be flaky, especially on
SMP systems.

Subject: Linux doesn't see ide1
Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 22:42:17 GMT
I'm having trouble getting Linux to see a 120 MB "superdisk" ATAPI
floppy drive that I've installed on ide1. I've got ide-floppy
compiled into the kernel (ver. 2.2.9). As the dmesg quote below
indicates, the kernel acknowledges that ide1 exists in the machine,
but doesn't see the device on it (which I guess would be assigned
hdc). And ide1 does not appear in the /proc/interrupts table, but it
does appear in /proc/ioports.
I checked the drive's documentation, and the best suggestion I could
find was to make sure that LBA was enabled in the BIOS, which it is.
At the suggestion of linux/Documentation/ide.txt, I tried booting
through lilo with ide1=0x170,0x376,15, but that didn't help.
I'm stumped. Anyone got a clue they'd care to offer?

Subject: Zoom 2919L modem not detected by Linux
Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 23:10:29 GMT
Hi,
I just got a Zoom int. isa 56k dual model 2919L
faxmodem. Before that I had a simple Telepath
14.4k which used com1, irq4. I shut down my
system and took out the old modem card. I modified
the jumpers on the new Zoom isa 2919L card as follows:
1) disabled pnp via jumpers
2) selected com1 via jumpers
3) selected irq4 via jumpers
I thought it would be a simple swap, one modem
for the other. My bios has PnP disabled by
the way. I inserted the Zoom ISA int. modem.
I booted the system...and...:
wvdialconf tells me there is nothing there!
when I look at proc/ioports I see that com1 and
com2 addresses have been assigned to serial(auto).
I'm using kernel 2.2.7.
Any reason why when following the above procedure
wvdialconf fails to even see anything on com1?
My old modem used com1, irq4 via jumpers. The new
Zoom isa int. 2919L likewise has been set to com1,
irq4 via jumpers. I've also disabled pnp in both
the bios and the Zoom modem.
By the way if this is of any help, my system is
running SuSE 6.1 only. It's not a dual boot system.
I've seen posts by people using this particular
Zoom modem in a dual boot configuration. So I'm wondering
does this Zoom 2919L int. isa modem have to setup to
use isapnp in order to get the dang thing to work?
I'm about ready to go out and by an external USR 56k
modem and say the heck with internal modems all together.
Many Thanks,
Sean

Two ways: (assuming ZIP=/dev/hdc
a) as a superfloppy:
insert medium, then do a
mke2fs /dev/hdc
b) as a harddisk:
insert medium, then partition it with fdisk.
then reboot w/ medium inserted
then do a
mke2fs /dev/hdc1
But be aware that I have not tried it myself and I wonder how Linux will
cope with type b) media...?
So: Use empty media to test!

On anothor machine, running 2.2.5, I've had no problems. So maybe

that there doesn't seem to excist any driver for my graphicscard, a
Dataexpert dit5740. The card is a based on Intels i570 chip and my windows9x

it isn't there.
Does anybody know any driver (maybe for a i570 card shipped by another
manufacturer) that is campatible and usable with the dit5740?

You're in luck. Prior to (very recently), you could get decent 2D
functionality w/ XFree86 3.3.3.1 (using the XF86_SVGA server), but
nVidia (http://www.nvidia.com) released a new server version that
supports both better 2D and a basic (non-optimized) GLX module.

Signal 11 can mean a number of things, I got signal 11 errors in Xwindows
when I had my kg2-350 overclocked to 366 so I could use 66mhz dimms. When I
replaced the dimms with a 128 MB 100mhz module and changed my clock speed
back to 350 everything was ok. If you're previous processor worked ok then
make sure you're not overclocking anything. Linux is extremely sensitive to
that.

Do you mean the SCSI Zip drive?
As far as I know, that only requires a SCSI adaptor.
Presumably the driver depends on the SCSI card.
I have a (cheap) Fireport card which works perfectly with my SCSI Zip drive.

There can be all kinds of problems connecting to an ISP. In my case, when
I upgraded to a 2.2 kernel I could still connect to my ISP (sirius.com),
but about all I could do was ping! No telnet, no web browsing. Turns out
I had to set 'novj' as an option, another user gave me that tip and saved
me having to go through by trial and error (like he did, I tried to send
him email to thank him profusely, but never decoded his address correctly).
But, even though it works for me, it only works on some numbers with my
ISP. As a matter of fact, it works on the numbers I'm NOT supposed to use
with my V90 modem, with other numbers, I make the connection, login in
with the password, then it kicks me off. The ISP won't help me because
they only offer support for Macs and that other !&%#@ company. I'm on,
but it's half by black magic.
