Kent,
You need to get your blood pressure looked at. 172/63 is well outside
the limits of what is considered healthy and normal.

If this is a CL-GD546x based card (Laguna3D), look at the FAQ:

ATAPI/IDE and SCSI versions behave just like a hard disk. For the
parallel version, the following URL may be useful:
http://www.torque.net/parport/
I have both the ATAPI and parallel versions and both have worked fine in
Linux for quite a while now (since early 2.0.x AFAIR)

Interesting. I just looked at the permissions on /dev/dsp, and it's got RW
all across the board - but I still have to SU myself to root before I can
access it with my radio card software.

Robert,
I'm in the same (or at least similar) boat. I have a Linksys Combo
PCMCIA EthernetCard which is a supported card. I have looked everywhere
for info on how to set up PCMCIA cards for networking but nothing I have
read has helped. I also have the strange problem that the cardinfo
command cannot be found anywhere. Both cardctl ident and cardctl status
give similar info to yours.
When I try to connect eth0 to a driver, no reasonable driver appears in
the list (I'm using Red Hat 6.0, BTW, on a Toshiba 2535 laptop.) From
what I've been able to gather, something called pcnet_cs is involved but
I don't know if this is a driver or not. It never shows up in the list
of drivers. My PCMCIA modem card works just fine so I know PCMCIA is
installed and working.
It doesn't seem that anyone else knows or if they know they are keeping
it secret. Why does it have to be this hard? I've gotten nowhere with
support at Red Hat so far.
I just got sound working. But to get it working I had to buy drivers
from 4Front ($20) but it was worth it! I'd surely pay $20 to get
networking through the PCMCIA card working!
If you find out anything useful, I would appreciate hearing about it.

HI,
I've a snapscan 1236s and after a period of trimming now works fine. I've Red
Hat (now 6.0 but this I'm telling u works on redHat 5.2 and I suppose it's not
diffucult to change it for Suse).
I've seen that there is NO way to make recognize our Ava1505 with the ISAPNP
script. I've added the module at boot time using "Kernelconfig" utility (as u
have seen the insmod works!). After that I've get the latest source version of
sane (1.1 I suppose). When u compile it u can exec a test that will search ur
scanner among ur SCSI device.
Just this, then u can exec xscanimage /dev/sgx where x is ur device ....
Remember that in such way the IRQ setting may be changed if u add a new device
... so u have to set the new IRQ.
I suggest to download also xsane a good front end to sane drivers, it does have
some problem with 1236s but I suppose u will have no problem.
Best regards
Luca Satolli

Go with a cheap (e.g. used) DDS-2 DAT. Maybe even DDS-1 suffices,
because you don't need to save static data (e.g. /usr) and the rest
should fit in 4-8G.
DAT has the great advantage of protability and widespread use.

regardless of what M$ wants, when folks say "nt" they mean nt, and
nothing else. when folks say 'windows' they -usually- don't mean NT.
but all this is just semantics, my main point was that some third
party figured out a way to implement the 'clever' concept of sleeping
during idle threads. why didn't M$ do that in the first place?

why should it matter? the only issue would be onboard periphs (sound,
lan, scsi, etc). and its usually the most flexible arrangement to NOT
get any of that integrated stuff, and instead, pick cards/vendors from
the linux-friendly list.

You could have a Viking, which is a PNP with no override jumpers,
which provides software so it can run under DOS or OS/2. However,
since it cannot be hardware-set, it cannot run under Linux. Unless,
of course, someone has come up with a driver for it. Viking has no
Linux drivers.

Matrox G200 and Riva TNT's are the fastest 2D chips. 2D performance is
more important in Linux than it is in Windoze (maybe because of
