the support for scsi cards is via kernel compiled-in driver or a
module. find out your scsi card and figure out what kernel options
you want to set. if you have modules for the various scsi cards, load
the appropriate one. insmod aic7xxx.o for example.

tell us what scsi adapter you have and we can help you more.

It is very well supported under the 2.2.x kernels. Just load the module
es1371.o (/sbin/modprobe es1371), and it will work.

Hi,

I just installed SuSE Linux 6.1 on my PII-400 system.
I am unable to get sound working, and I think its because
I have a Ensoniq AudioPCI S5016 card which from what
I can tell is unsupported. I was wondering if anyone can
tell me if indeed this card is or is not supported?

Thanks

You're using the Redhat installed kernel, according to the line that
reads [EMAIL PROTECTED] from your dmesg output.

su to root and do a (x,menu)config, and emable Symmetric mult-processing
support (CONFIG_SMP). Then recompile and reinstall your kernel and any
necessary modules.

Hello,

I'm interested in getting a cd-rw and I wanted to know if anyone had got
a JVC 2080 working under linux. I had read that some had had problems
with this one.

We're looking at a 2.2.3 kernel, running on a slackware 3.2 machine.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

Does anyone have a system running using one of these cards? I have the
patched 2.2.9 kernel and have tried everything on the UDMA howto, but as
soon as the kernel tries to access a drive on the Promise card, I get
"hdx: lost interrupt".
Any suggestions?

Thnx!

Hi all!

I just went through the Ethernet-HOWTO and was wondering if anyone had any
personal experiences with these NIC's in Linux? I'm about to retire two
16-bit NE2000 (10bT) NIC's in my Linux box and would like to move up to
100 Mbit PCI NIC's and the newer Linksys EtherFast 10/100's are based on
the DEC Tulip chipset.

Anyone have any opinions on this Linksys card or Linksys in general? Or
any other recommendations for a 10/100 Mbit PCI NIC? (Other than the 3COM
905's). Thanks!

From what I know a voodoo 3 (whatever model) can't even begin to help
you in what you want to do for the simple reason that it will not do 3D in
a window (only full screen mode is supported). Whats more nVidia have a
better effort of supporting Linux, they have completely open sourced their
drivers and have a complete team of developpers that get payd by them to
make descent drivers for xFree and mesa. About the other cards I don't
realyy know since I'm not into OpenGL exept for gaming purpose :-)

I hope so, I'm running RH 5.x & 6.X on Mod 95s & 77s using stock 2.2.x
kernels. The problem is the installation as RH doesn't support MCA out
of the box (AFAIK).

ISAPNPTOOLS are supposed to tame that modem easily.
It is certainly a silly idea to buy a PNP modem when one

Subject: How do you determine the base address of the PIIX4 chip
Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1999 23:13:23 GMT

I have been trying to determine what the base address is for the USB
controller on the 430TX / PIITX4 on my GA-586TX2 motherboard.

So far I have found that:

- the manual. Has a memory and I/O map in the technical section, it is
not clear what category does the PIITX4 fit into (PCI device or CHIPSET
control registers)
- the GA-586TX2 is a GigaByte produced board, hit the companies web
site (www.gigabyte.co.jp). Mostly Japanese and what was in English,
could not find more detail on the memory map
- the intel web site, this has a 300 page manual on the PIITX4
(including the USB controller), but everything is referenced from the
"base_address".

So, can anybody (maybe those who own a GA-586TX2 motherboard) advise of
the base address of the PIITX4 chip ? Any hints or other sites where I
can find this detail would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help

Bill

third disk hdg ide3 M
fourth disk hdf ide2 S
fifth disk hdh ide3 S

Device/mount relationships are managed in /etc/fstab.

Data transfers between devices on the same ideN are slow,
between devices on different ideN are fast.

You should probably start by removing the promise and
putting ide0/1 in order.

Subject: lilo installable on FAT32?
Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 16:06:51 -0700

Hi folks,

Hope this is not a FAQ.

I want to install LILO on my system, but I have Windows 98 installed,
and it formatted my
boot disk as as FAT32.

I have installed Linux (floot boot) on another partition, but I don;t
know if it is safe to install
LILO on my boot disk.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance,

Fraser

Has anyone got the cs4232 sound to work on kernel 2.2.7? I'd love to see
your conf.modules file. sndconfig (RH5.2) finds the card but the
parameters it comes up with are unacceptable to 2.2.7's modules.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Yes, I just installed Redhat 6.0 on my Gateway PC which has an ATAPI 32X
DVD-ROM drive. But I have heard that to actually access the DVD drive
from within Linux, you may a have to configure it to make it appear like
a CD-ROM drive. Does anyone have any idea how to configure ?

Thanks,
Indira

I tried the modprobe just as you said and I received the following error:

/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/es1371.o: init_module: Device or Resource Busy!

Any ideas as to why this is happening? (Sounds like an IRQ conflict or
something)
