I have posted this problem before.

My Adaptec 1640 PC card SCSI controller and PC Card Ethernet controller are
sharing the same interrupt.

NOTHING I have tried will make them use different interrupts.

I am sure I must be overlooking something.

Robin

I don't know about your kernel, but my kernel (2.2.5-15smp) doesn't support
powerdown by default. In fact, apd support is not compiled into the smp
kernel at all. The boot-sequence messages indicate that apm support isn't
present in the kernal, so I get the big red Failed when apmd tries to start.

Hi,
I would like to know if the driver for Matrox G400Max exists. If not can
you tell when I will be able to get it. In particular, will it be in the
next release of XFree86 that will be able to handle two screen on the

Thank you.

i tried this also a long time, but i got it work.

here's a good sound-link-page for linux:

http://www.bright.net/~dlphilp/linux_s oundapps.html

and from this page for OPL3-SAX:

http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/solo/216/yamaha.htm

i once installed the newest version from the oss-system (first time i
got my soundcard to run), gathered the settings from there,
de-installed it again and then used the link above.

now all works fine!

hope, this helps

Subject: Philibs Brillance 105

Hi everybody!
Maybe you can help me solving my problem. I have a Philips Brillance
105 monitor. The geometry distortion of this monitor can be adjusted
only with a software named Customax, provided with the monitor. The
problem is that I can't find a linux version of this program. I tried
to search for it on the internet, and i didn't find it, I called the
Philips Monitors help line and they couldn't solve my problem (the
operator didn't even know what linux was).

I already posted a message in an italian linux newsgroup, but nobody
could find a solution. Somebody told to use xvidtune, but with this
program I can only move or change hieght and width of the screen. I
need to adjust the Trapeziod distorction, the Pincushion distorction
and other function which are usually adjusted directly on the monitor
(with OSD in example). I actually run X11 in 800x600 72 Hz and
1024x768 70 Hz, which are displayed rectangular. All the other
combination of resolution/refresh are displayed distorted and should
be adjusted.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It would help if you could tell what graphics card under what resolution you are
running.
Anyway, the four screens are the result of not detecting the width of the screen
correctly. Some graphics cards have an actual screen width in memory
which is different from the displayed width. For example the Matrox
Millennium had 960 Pixel width in 800x600 mode. If you know the real
width and start xtvscreen with the parameter -rw <realwidth> you
should have only one picture.
Another reason could be that the color depth is not recognized
correctly. In that case you have to use -bpp <bits per pixel>.
> the screen. Is this a common problem.
It really depends on the graphics card and its driver.

You can find the sources and readmes to xtvscreen at

The files TVscreen.c TVscreen.h and TVscreenP.h define a new
widget class (the tvscreenWidgetClass) which is compatible to the
Xt toolkit. ( One does not need Motif to use the Tvscreenwidget.)
It is meant to provide an easy way to incorporate the "TVscreen"
in X11 applications. The size, positions, TV norm, input, brightness,
etc of the "TVscreen" can all be set via the resources of the WidgetClass=
=2E

Since the tvscreenWidgetClass is subclass of the coreWidgetClass all
its functionalities are inherited. In addition to that we provide
resources to set the tuner frequency, the input select of the bt848 and
various other settings like color. The clipping of the "TVscreen" is
also handled by the Widget itself. The following list gives an overview
of the resources provided up until now:

"devname" is a string that defines the device name, e.g /dev/bttv, of t=
he
bt848 driver. This is useful if you have more than one grabber
            card in your system.

"capture" is a boolean that switches the capturing on or off.

"norm" is an integer that switches the television norm:
            0 =3D PAL
            1 =3D NTSC
            2 =3D SECAM

"freq" is an integer that sets the frequency of the tuner:
            freq in MHz =3D freq/16

"inpsel" is an integer that selects the input ( used to be "input", wa=
s
            changed for compatibility reasons):
            0 =3D tuner
            1 =3D composite 1
            2 =3D composite 2
            3 =3D SVHS

"delay" is an integer that sets the delay between a refresh request a=
nd
            a refresh.

"bright" integer that controls brightness.

"col" integer that controls color.

"hue" integer that controls hue.

"contrast" integer that controls contrast. =

"refresh" is a boolean that switches the refreshs made by the widget
on or off (is not really useful yet).

"devname" is string for setting the bttv device name, e.g. /dev/bttv1 f=
or =

            your second grabber card.

"visname" is a string for setting the name of the visual, e.g. TrueColo=
r.
One can also use a hex number (e.g. 0x22) to enter
the visual ID, or an integer preceded by a "c" =

(e.g. c4) to enter the visual class directly.

"bpp" is an integer for setting the bpp for cards that do not recog=
nize =

            them correctly.

        =

So if you want to write your own X11 application you can use the
TVscreenWidget and its resources to control the bt848.

The xtvscreen program is an X11 application using Motif that makes
use of the TVscreenWidgetClass. It provides a user interface to
control the resources of a TVscreenWidget. =

The menubar has two pulldown menus (The helpmenu has no real function
yet). The first one ("file") gives access to the quit button. (I guess
you know what that ones for.) The second one ("start") has four
buttons. The first one ("capture") toggles the capturing on or
off. =

ATTENTION: You have to set capturing to on in order to get a picture.
The default is set to off, because we want to avoid any premature
program crashes. The driver is still being tested, so it is necessary
to have some more control over the program, especially if you want to deb=
ug it.

The second button ("control") pops up the control panel and the
third ("channel") pops up the channel selector.
In addition to that there are also 4 buttons that allow you to select
the input of the grabber card.

The fourth button is for fixing the aspect ratio.

The Snapshot button saves the current image to a file with name
"picxxx.jpg" where xxx is the running number of the snapshots take.
Careful it always starts with 000.

The control panel is split into two parts. In the upper half you can
control the input, the TV norm, the refresh delay and picture
characteristics like color and hue. In the lower part are the tuner
controls. Here you can set the frequency of the channels and define
new TV channels. If you have found a new channel and want to add it
to the channel list simple type in the name you want to give it and
click on "Add channel" and the channel selector pops up with the
new channel added to the channel list.

The channel selector window provides you with the ability to
save and load your channel settings and to delete channels. I think
it is pretty much self explanatory.

The relation between channel and actual frequency depends on the country
you live in. xtvscreen provides the possibility to load a file
describing this relation. Furthermore, one can set a default by
setting the constant DCOUNTRY in the globs.h file. The countries
you can choose from are also listed in globs.h.

xtvscreen provides the following command line options:

-norm <NORM> for setting the tv norm at startup, e.g. NTSC=3D1
-input <INPUT> for setting the input at startup, e.g. SVHS=3D3
-dev <"devname"> for setting the bttv device name, e.g. /dev/bttv1 fo=
r =

                     your second grabber card.
-v <"Visual"> for setting the name of the visual, e.g. TrueColor.
One can also use a hex number (e.g. 0x22) to enter
the visual ID, or an integer preceded by a "c" =

(e.g. c4) to enter the visual class directly.
-bpp <bits/pixel> for setting the bpp for cards that do not recognize =

                     them correctly
-capon for setting capturing on at startup =

                     (default is off).
-rw <width> for setting the width of the screen in pixels
it is not reported correctly by the xserver.
-asp (0/1/2) determines the aspect ratio used by the "Fix x/y"
                     button. (0=3D default, 1=3D4/3, 2=3D16/9)
   -disableSaver
-dontDisableSaver to disable screen saver (or not) during the use of =

                     xtvscreen. Default is disable.
(added using code suggestions from Joerg Schneider)
-country <file> to set the channel <-> frequency relation via file =
    =

see Europe.chan or USA.chan as example.
-full sets snapshot to full screen size.
-snap <snapName> set name for snapshot file
-seq <snapName> set name for sequence file =

If you have suggestions about improving the interface please e-mail us.

have tried that but MAKEDEV only create up to 8 devices : scd0 to scd7....

Thats my problem, seems that by default linux does not support more than 8

I have a similar problem with my IBM keyboard. I don't know the exact model,
but manufacturing date is 1987. I once put a POST analyze in my PC and I saw
it hnags at the keyboard test. I suspect the controller in the keyboard
is not yet fully reset when the motherboard keyboard controller tries
to do something. This leads to some lock condition. Hitting the reset
button solves the problem, because the controller in the keyboard is
initialized at that time. I have learned to live with this problem as I turn
it of seldomly.

But before you do any of this, make sure you have a rescue floppy, and
*verify* that it is capable of reading your backup medium. :-)

This way, you succeed not only in repartitioning your disk, but also
in checking that your backup/recovery strategy is working.

Date: Thu, 17 Jun 1999 11:42:03 +0200
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

First here is my config :

I have a pentium box, with Redhat Linux 5.0 kernel 2.0.32 (base
instillation kernel, not recompiled, no time)

So here is my problem :

Till now, I had one SCSI controler, an external scsi tower with 6 SCSI
CDROM readers. The controler is an Adaptec 2940
All worked perfectly....

As I ran out of readers, I installed one more reader in the tower, and one
more Adaptec 2940 controler with one more tower with 7 readers.

So I have now 2 controlers with each 7 readers....

as the cut of mesg at startup included at the end of this mail show, the
two controlers and the 14 readers are well recognized...

the devices in /dev are normally recognized as scd0 scd1 scd2 ....

The problem is the following :

There was only scd0 to scd7 in /dev/

I first try to create scd8 with MAKEDEV => MAKEDEV only create from scd0
to scd7

I create the devices in /dev with mknod as it was told :

mknod scd8 b 11 8

so the /dev/scd8 was well created with major 11 (scsi CD) and minor 8.

then I tried the eject commande on each CD

for the first controler, everything works well : scd0 to scd6

for the second controler, when I eject scd7, the first reader ejects well,
but whet I try to eject scd8 to scd13 it is also the first reader that
eject....

So my question is :

How can I have the 2 controlers, 14 readers working well? have i to
upgrade kernel to 2.2 as some people said to me ?
Have I to give some directive at boot time (for example MAX_LUN?)?

Thanks for help

ps : please answer on my email address too....

That's what happens when a lot of stupid people sit down at their computers
semi-concurrently... <~>

So don't be one of them!

What would ever possess any reasonably intelligent person to agree to those
terms?!? There is ABSOLUTELY *NO* legitimate reason for a seller to refuse
to use either C.O.D. or one of the third-party escrow services. If you do
agree to such terms (such as by placing a bid), you are ASKING to be ripped
off -- it's that simple.

If you see something listed on eBay that you might want, but the seller has
specified any such nonsense as "payment by money order in advance", just
send him a note telling him/her that you're interested, but WILL NOT bid
under those terms -- if he'll do C.O.D. (or iEscrow, etc.) and guarantee the
item against DOA, then you will be happy to consider placing a bid on his
item.

Then STICK TO IT -- remember, he's asking for YOUR money. It's up to him to
make it worth you giving it to him. And don't worry... No matter what the
item is, odds are another one will come along soon enough.
