That's absolutely wrong. It works with any multiplier!

I do not know about ALSA, but you can only get a non-time limited version of
the OSS driver from the other adresses for money. I have got the same problem
with a Turtle Beach Malibu card :(

Question #7: How Can I Make Linux More Like Windows?

Reboot every

Be sure to turn off virtual memory in Windows (then reboot)
before running defrag. After you're done with fips you can
then re-enable virtual memory.

Hmmm...interesting comments. I've a GMX-2000 based card, too.
However, the support under Linux is not that great for it. I've been
meaning to put in a request for support for my RAMDAC to the XFree86
people. Currently, XFree86 attempts to use the RAMDAC in the Permedia
2 - well gotta say "Doh," however, I know the RAMDAC on the card is
not supported.
If I could afford another such based card, I would buy one; however,
I'm bringing up a second machine which will run Linux exclusively. I
think a TNT 2 based card like the Diamond Viper 770 Ultra will be my
choice of cards for the machine ($208 shipped from www.onsale.com).
The original TNT scored pretty well on Indy3D. The thing that
attracts me most to the card is that GLX supports it now - even if the
drivers are not optimized. Nothing like having open source openGL
from it's originator.
Thanks for your comments.

Not in my experience. Sounds like you have a process running constantly,
but I'm afraid I don't know enough to say what. I would look at the list of
things that are starting with your linux (you can press the left-shift key
and page up to see the list in the Redhat 5.2 that I'm running) - see if you
notice anything that sounds like it would do this. Alternatively the linux
is not setup properly for your hardware - does the box work OK apart fromt
he thrashing of the HD?

Your 2940 scsi controller can address 8 devices (0 to 7) unfortunately device 7
is usually addressed as the controller card itself. Thats why you can only have
7 physical devices on the scsi cable. You could if you wanted have 2 scsi cards,
each in a separate machine talk to the 6 other devices and share them.

I believe that at one point there was a patch that allowed you to
change the kernel while it was running.
Using modules is probably the best way to develop drivers.

In 2.2.10, uncomment the following line in /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/config.in
# source drivers/usb/Config.in
And yes.. its not for the faint of heart. :)

I had no luck whatsoever getting a K6/2-350 to work with EDO or FPM memory
(at 100MHz). If you do get it to work, you're probably a bit lucky. You might be
able to overclock the K6/2-350 to 366 (66 * 5.5) or downclock it to 333 (66 * 5).
I'm not saying it can't be done, just that it didn't work for me and AMD doesn't
support it.

FWIW, I could not move my old S3-968 based card to an LX motherboard when I
upgraded my computer from a Pentium to a Pentium-II. There are a lot of S3's
because S3 is targetting the low end of the video board marketplace.

In general it will work (though it will be slower than if you compiled the
kernel for non-SMP mode obviously). As I recall, there are some motherboards
that it won't work in, but I don't remember any details.

Wait.
I thought the on board SCSI on ASUS P2BDS is the Adaptec 7890 U2/W/SCSI,
and the 2940U2W is an add on board?
Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

That's sort of an odd statement, considering that, at the very least, the 9ES LVD
drive has no on-board termination, and thus requires high and low byte termination
no matter what. So with either 50 or 68 pin SCSI connectors, you'll have to terminate
the SCSI chain somewhere other than on the drive -- for both the high and low bytes.
But maybe I don't understand what message you are trying to convey....
