Good. Everything you need is there and seems to be configured
correctly. Do you have a program that with which you can determine
whether the output device is an OPL Chip, a wavetable Chip or an
external MIDI device?
kmod (on some ftp-servers kmid, not kmidi) for the K Environment can
do so.

My receipt for a new Micron Millenia 450 says ...

SCM001414-00 Sound Card 128-voice PCD wavetable onboard sound.

My guess is that it's an on the motherboard chip.

Gotta get Real Audio running !!!

If anybody's configured this, then could they please post

I just bought an 8.4 gig drive. The installation procedure installed
"EZ-Drive",
which the manual said wouldn't be installed if the drive didn't need it.
Well,
it turns out it didn't need it. My bios settings were for "Auto", and
setting drive
type to LBA enabled me to ditch "EZ-Drive" and run the win95 FDisk and set

up DOS partitions the way I wanted them. Before I removed EZ-Drive, Dos
fdisk would crash, and linux's fdisk would tell me the Dos partitions were

overlapping, and I could only see the ONE dos primary partion and the
three
extended dos partitions appeard as one big partition. I couldn't delete to
make
room for Linux.

Now, I can. If your mother board supports LBA, try setting it to that and
removing
any kind of big disk program from your boot sector.

Hello,
I installed 5 SCSI disks (18Go) on a Server (Intel) running RedHat

When I add an other disk, the name of this new device becomes
the first and move forward the name of the others devices, that is
to say, if I had devices sda1, sdb1, sdc1....., when I add an other
disk, its name becomes sda1, and the previous sda1 becomes
sdb1, sdb1--->sdc1, sdc1---->sdd1, and so on.
Please could somebody can tell me if there is a way to prevent this
move forward ?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, upgrade your XFree86 with the latest updates from
ftp://updates.redhat.com. You need at least XFree86-3.3.3 to work right
with the Riva TNT chipset.

You should upgrade to Red Hat 5.2 first, probably. Getcher upgrades at
Cheapbytes for now, since Red Hat 6.0 is probably coming out within the
next two months and it'd be a shame to pay full price for something that
you're about to replace...

The only time I've ever gotten those messages, the hard drive died

The BadCRC errors, however, could be a bad cable...

Not just in hacker circles; the use is more widespread. When was the last
time you bought 64MB of RAM expecting to get 64*10^6 bytes and not 64*2^20
bytes?

I agree with you that we should use SI prefixes in the standard way. So
does the IEEE. There's an interesting article about proposed prefixes for
binary powers at http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/binary.html . It's a
good idea, but "kibibyte" just doesn't roll off the tongue like
"kilobyte". And to me "mebibyte" sounds like data of questionable
integrity.

I propose the following: Unit Abbr Quantity
                                ---------- ---- --------
                                kaluabyte KaB 2^10
                                moolahbyte MuB 2^20
                                gigglebyte GiB 2^30
                                terrorbyte TeB 2^40

If everyone would just follow my new standard, we could communicate with
absolute clarity. (Of course, we'd all sound like we're 4 years old, but
it's a minor drawback compared to the advantage of lucid thought.)

If you reduce the pressure, water will boil at any temperature down to
(almost) 0C. This can give very effective cooling from a closed
evacuated pipe with a bit of water inside (no air). It's called a heat
pipe and amazingly efficient, with no danger of fire (no magic smoke
inside).

The "bug" I believe he's referring to is one that is in the Kernel 2.0.x
series. 2.2.x fixed this, and since RealAudio is built on that bug, it
