Are you sure that dhcpd will work in a system with two NIC's? I don't have
the docs in front of me, but I seem to recall that there was some issue
with that, which resulted in me not putting it on my TR-to-Ethernet
router.

Dear Linux Folks,

Has anyone actually seen (in the flesh) the "N-Flux" laptop advertised
at http://www.thelinuxstore.com/ ?

It's sort of looks too good to be true...anyone aware of whether my
suspicions are well- or unfounded? With 15% restocking, it's difficult
to buy one, sight-unseen.

  My main concerns:

  - The display; brightness, angle of viewing.
  - Support thru "element-L". Anyone have experience with this
organization?
  - Battery charging and usage time.

NOTE: If replying to this posting via email, be sure to remove the
anti-SPAM cap 'S' from the reply address, first!

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hi all, I was looking for a way to do a tape conversion using tar.
My setup is Linux 2.2.5 with 2 identical tape drives which work fine.
I want to do a 'tar xvf /dev/st0 | tar cvf /dev/st1' but it keeps
telling me that it refuses to create the archive. Is there a way to do
this?

Thanks in advance.

Chances are the file was copied using a packet writing program. This is a
program that lets you treat the CD-R drive as if it were a regular hard
disk. The problem is that Linux doesn't like CDs created in this way.

If the only way you can get this file into Linux is directly off the CD,
your best bet is to have your friend try again using conventional CD-R
software like Easy CD Creator, Nero, or whatnot. Alternatively, you might
have luck if you ran VMWare on Linux and accessed it from Windows under
VMWare, but then you'd have to install Windows in VMWare, and that's a lot
of work to get one file.

I have a HP Scanjet 3C that I'd like to get working under Linux. The
scanner works fine with Windows 95.

The scanner is connected to a HP SCSI card (C2502) which is NCR53C400 based.

I've compiled all of the NCR SCSI options as modules and even tried compiling
support for my NCR chip into the kernel (using both port and memory options).

I tried both 2.2.5 and 2.2.10 on a RedHat 6 system.

Has anyone had any luck with this HP SCSI card, or should I simply get
another card?

Thanks.

Date: Tue, 22 Jun 1999 15:12:14 GMT

I have a Sun 1662B monitor that I would like to use on a fairly standard
PC under linux (RH6.0).

I have already built the 'trick' cable, and expect that it will work, as
I run a Sun 20E20 on a different linux box. The 20E20 is a multi-sync,
so it is easier. I also know that the monitor is OK.

I am running an ATI Mach64 in both boxes. What I need is what I need is
any functioning XF86Config file that is known to work with either the
1662B or the 1962B, and I do not care what video card you use. I have
tried the assorted, but isolated, modelines that have been posted, but
no joy. I suspect that I could fix-up the card section of XF86Config
easier that get the timing bits to work.

I know that it will not work in console mode, but that will be OK.

Please CC a copy directly to me if you choose to also post. This is an
active list, and I don't want to miss any offered help.

Thank you in advance. John Turnbull [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Welp I had it working now I don't due to a reinstall of linux (all but
/home). PNP sees that the modem there and I can activate it with the
pnp tools but it does work or so it seems. I have been trying to set it
up as /dev/cua1 but with kernel 2.2 it would be /dev/ttyS1 right? Has
anyone else had any sucess with it? I had it working when I removed my
non-plug and play USR Courier 33.6 modem and replaced it with this pnp
one (exact IRQ/IO setup).

Tell Dell that you are off of Linux, and just want to install the isa modem
so you can fax and surf at the same time...... eg; that you have 2 phone
lines.

That ought to fry thier little bullshitting brains!

Have you ever installed a modem under Linux? I did it but now I can't
remember how. Install the card, then boot up, log in as root, run
control-panel, run network configurator then try and add a ppp interface.
Seems like my modem was on com2 in dos and therefore cua3 in Linux. It's not
that hard just have a go at it.

I think what he meant was you needed the latest CVS version, not the 0.0.3 version

Abdrey,

You should be able to use your modem. I am using a simmular modem.

You need to find what IRQ and IO Port your modem is using. Com3 is ttyS2 is
0x3e8 and so on.

then use the command

setserial /dev/ttyS<your port> irq 5 port 0x3e8 spd_vhi

then make a link from /dev/ttyS<your port> to /dev/modem

Im sure your modem will work if indeed it is a non-win USR modem.

If you are using a 50 pin cable and a 68-50 adapter, running
in SE mode, you need the 68-50 adapter to have the high byte
terminated. Obviously you cannot terminate the high byte on
a 50 pin cable, so the termination must take place at the
adapter.

It is an oddity though, only newer IBM LVD drives and some
older models of Seagate SCA drives seem to have this
problem.
