finding a component in a piece of hardware that isnt intel is like winning
lotto
just take a look at the chips on your hard drive or flopy drive and you will
prob find one :)

If thats the case, either the printer, or the port driver is defectively
implemented, or this user has a bad printer cable. What the heck *is*
the busy line on the printers input port for but to tell the host its
buffer is nearly full?
Just a SWAG hunch though, you might check the printers config options,
maybe it doesn't have the physical memory its set for?

I downloaded the demo from xi to see if it works, just out of curiosity
(spelling?). Anyways, i set the card to rage fury .. and nothing. It would
start, then when it tried to switch to grafix mode, go black and i would
have to force a reboot. Is it because i have a Rage Magnum, and the server
won't work because its for Rage Fury ? I thought they were exactly the
same chipset (except that the magnum defaults to 90/90 clock speed while
the fury has 106/106). Maybe i am doing something wrong ?

You could try to buy a parallel to scsi adapter, and use a scsi cd rom or a
parallel to ISA adapter kit and use a ISA cdrom. . I have loaded both virus
(windoze)95 and Linux this way, I found a parallel to scsi adpater (Belknap) on
sale for $35 and
a old scsi cd rom for $25. The case was from a thrft store for $5.00. Then
Office depot had a closeout on IOMEGA's PCMCIA scsi adapter for $45 according
to all my software it's an Adaptec1460. So I put the Belknaps on the shelf for
when I need it. Also where you don't have a math coprocessor you have to
specify no math coprocessor when you build your kernal.

Hi,
I have a P100 with 64M RAM running Linux RH5.2 2.0.36 on a separate HD.
I it possible to remove that HD and place it in a new PC, a P3 450 Mhz
with 128M?
Or do I have to reinstall or reconfigure Linux?
Thanks

the busy line only comes into effect on multiple page docs. since a laser
printer has to hold a complete page in memory before it can render the page,
you can fill up all availablr RAM with one page. Years ago when this
printer was the current model we printed text only so one or 2M of RAM could
hold several pages. Now we do modt things graphically so one page can get
several M's in size.

I have the same card, but run Mandrake 5.3. To get it working with 5.3 I had
to upgrade kernel to 2.2.7+(2.2.10 now) and compile the sound as modules in the
kernel. This worked perfectly with sndconfig. With the old kernel, or if I
compiled the sound as "y" (monolithic) the sndconfig couldn't configure and
gave the same error as yours.
hope this helps.

I have been trying to install Mandrake Linux 6 and every time I try to
either autoprobe my Intel EtherExpress Pro, the install hangs. I am using my
old Pentium Pro 200, and have even left the install running for 10-15min and
it never gets past the autoprobe of my network card.
I have run the NIC diagnostics, and setup and it passes without a problem.
I have even tried installing Win98 on my spare hard disk in this computer,
and it recognizes and uses the card without a problem.
Any idea on how to fix this ?
