8250: No buffer, original UART, had bugs.
8250A: No buffer, fixed 8250 bugs, but that broke XT systems that
expected the bugs.
8250B: No buffer, no bugs, but didn't work at 9600 bps.
16450: 1-byte buffer, capable of at least 33600 bps but sucked a lot of
CPU time.
16550: 16-byte buffer that didn't work AVOID.
16550A: 16-byte buffer that *did* work, capable of at least 115200 bps.
16650: 32-byte buffer, 230400 bps.
16750: 64-byte buffer, 460800 bps.

Just out of curious... If you have OSS driver (it works with PCI 128), why
can't you get it to work under Redhat? (The OSS driver is for Linux, right?)
When I did the installation, everything works pretty well right from the
begining... Although I did get in trouble later on with the card... BUT, I got
it working again by running the sndconfig again.
I can't remember where the chip or identification is at the moment... It might
take a week or so before I have the time to open my box up again.
Good Luck.

Has anyone tried to install Linux on a Dell Poweredge 4100/200 server?
It has dual Pentium Pro 200 processors, built in ATI Mach 64 display
controller, and 2 SCSI chains - a narrow one for the CD-ROM and 4mm tape
and a wide one for the disk drives.
It currently runs NT 4.0 but we are having problems with it. I would
like to dump NT and move to Linux (red Hat 6.1) but I want to see if
anybody has managed to get it to run successfully before I try it. (I've
got a fair amount of data to move around to make this happen)

...just removing the "off" would leave you with "alias eth0 " which
wouldn't work too well. Also make sure you're starting the DHCP client
(if you want that) or you have the IP and all set correctly. YaST can do
all that for you really easily. Bonne Chance...

Yes try a Websearch for "scsistop". This little tool can stop and start
scsi drives that support this feature.

Thats a little problem, the tool sends the command and the drive spins
down immediately, and the drive must be restarted with the tool again.

There is nothing in /var/log/messages or dmesg when the mount is attempted.
modprobe scsi_hostadapter does correctly load the module. I have not recompiled
the stock RH6.1 kernel (2.2.12-20). I believe it has kerneld support by default

Following the advice of "Bit Twister" in a previous reply, I added the line
"setserial /dev/modem spd_vhi" to /etc/rc.d/rc.local. When I run
"setserial -a /dev/modem" after boot, it is set to very high speed.
However, the problem persists. Is my action equivalent to your
suggestion? (you're suggestion looks more complicated...what is
"0setserial"?). Have I made an error by replacing /dev/ttyS0 with
/dev/modem?

I have seen this problem on 3com 3c90* cards a
couple of times. I dont know what the message
means, but I found that it relates to
transmission speed and mode (10/half, ...,
100/full). The problem arises when the card runs
in "auto-negotiate" mode (the default on this
cards) and the auto-negotiation seems to fail
once in a while. I found two ways around it:
- Configure a fixed mode on the card, like
100/full.
- Force a new auto-negotiation, e.g. through the
attached switch.
I found that the auto-negotiation works fine when
you change the port settings on the switch, while
the PC is running, but fails once in a while,
when done from the PC, e.g. after a power cycle.

Aww.... Come on, they should atleast require you to use a real client....
As for your question about modems, an external modem that connects to the
serial bus is the easiest for Linux.

IMHO the output from my H+ is *much* better than the (software decoded?)

IIRC they said that they would support Linux with their next card,
not the current ones. Perhaps we need to hassle them more.

I've got several hacks which do this, but the best one just patches a

The ability to do other things while swapping more than makes up for this

Hi,
you should do next steps
Client (Computer where you are sitting and where you expect to get program
window)
Server (Computer where you run application)
Client side - open new terminal and make xhost+ (You allow to connect to
your window server from all another mashines - but better xhost +server).
Login into server:
Server side - export DISPLAY=client:0 and just start application.
So, it should works now if there is no any restrictions like firewall ports
and something like that but as you run it through PPP connection you will
get a picture not immideatly. There is some protocol for dialup connection
(but I do not have URL at the moment to point there) which able speedup
getting output ot a program.
