I have recompiled my kernel with usb. I have 2.2.14 with the latest
usb vackport from 2.3.47. I get a long string of error code at boot up
that begind with usb_debug.o, or something like that. It is in the
form of the usb structure listed in on of the document included with
the drives(linux/Documentation/usb/) When I mount the usbdevfs to
/proc/bus/usb, there is nothing listed.
If I cat a file to /dev/usblp0, I get a permissions error. I have the
right usb driver because it has the short IO address (0x2341). Help me
please.

Try setting your connection protocal. If you are getting the same
speed as 33.6 and 28.8, try going to http://808hi.com/56k/x2-
linklimit.htm to find tips for your init string. You may be defaulting
to a slower v.34.

I have an ASUS SC-875 SCSI card which I believe is similiar to
your card. I have a Quantum hard drive, Plextor 12/20PLEX CD,
and a Smart & Friendly 426 CD-RW drive and they all get recognized.
I have a Slackware system with a 2.0.36 kernel. So it is possible
to get it to work.
The only suggestion that I have is to just try one device at a time
and verify cabling, termination, etc.

Sorry for the confusion :-(
I am running RedHat 6.0 using ES 1370 driver (since my is 1370)... My methol may
sound stupid... but I do not know any other way to do it. The same thing happened
to me: freez up and not able to heard the sample running sndconfig.
1. If you put the mixer on your panel, remove it from the panel at this moment. It
gives me some troubles (don't know why). If you really want to use mixer, use the
one in the KDE meun.
2. Reboot your machine. Run sndconfig after reboot as root.
3. Here is the thing I think it is very stupid but I have no explain to that...
>From my experience, if you see the sngconfig freez up on you, it will keep freezing
up everytime UNLESS you reboot. However, after reboot, I can't garantee that
sndconfig will not freez up on you. I kept doing this for hours to get it to work.
ps. I use Enlightenment, I do use and place the mixer (applet) on my panel... but,
I will never RUN the program... because evertime I do that.... My sound goes away
and that means I have to try to configure my soundcard again.
I hope this help.
Good luck
Alex.

Norman,
I have RH6.1 and an ATI Xpert 128 16Mb card.
I have tried XFree86 3.3.6 and the XFCom_r128 approach and so far have
not got either to work !!
With XFCom_r128 I was able to see the GNOME desktop (sort of ) as the
screen resolution was huge and not all on the screen, also, GNOME
failed straight away.
With XFree86 I am able to get a series of xterms with indistiguishable
fonts and hideous colours that do not fit on the screen.
I will let you know if I actually get anywhere with this card !!!!

Subject: IDE2 IRQ problem on MB ABIT BP6

I have dual celeron with MB ABIT BP6 and instaled RedHat6.0.
Kernel (2.2.5-15smp) has problem to inicialize IDE2 during
booting. This is part of dmesg file:
PIIX4: IDE controller on PCI bus 00 dev 39
PIIX4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later

hdc: IRQ probe failed (0)
hdc: IRQ probe failed (0)
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
hda: IBM-DPTA-372050, 19574MB w/1961kB Cache, CHS=2495/255/63
As IDE2/Master I have conected CDROM. This configuration works
without any problems under win98 where IDE1 controler has IRQ14 and
IDE2 controler has IRQ15.
Can anybody help how to solve this problem?
Thanks

Hi folks,
Running Slackware 7.0 on some Intel machines here. 1 serves as "server"
with user directories mounted. Has been working fine for weeks. But
now client machines can't mount /users.
When I try from a client, I get:
client:~# mount /users/
mount: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
and then I see in the host's /var/adm/messages:
harmony init: PANIC: segmentation violation at 0x808b463! sleeping for
30 seconds.
What the hell does that mean?
We do have machines tcp wrapped and use only ssh to get around. But
like I said, it's been fine for months. Worried we've been hacked /
or the HD is dying.
Email responses preferred.

Subject: Signal 10 on SCSI Disk during boot
Date: Wed, 08 Mar 2000 15:40:50 GMT
Good Day
I am testing Red Hat Linux 6.1 on a Dell 4200 server with adaptec 2940
ultra wide SCSI controller and 5 * 4 Gig disks.
The install went fine and all seems well on the system except many time
during a re-boot or shutdown and power cycle I am getting the error:
"Warning ... fsck.ext2 for device /dev/sdc6 exited with signal 10"
This error comes up probably half the time I re-boot and the partition
is different each time, sometimes two partitions have errors. So far
each error has been an extended partition.
I have tried fsck -f before and after this error and have not found a
problem yet.
Any information or help is appreciated.

If possible, get Partition Magic (or some utility like it) and
dual boot (I'm assuming you're currently running some version of
Windows). That way, you can test the setup and see if it works
before you go through the trouble of erasing a working
configuration only to re-create it later.
I haven't tried using a scanner or DVD on my Linux side, so I
don't know how they would work. One good thing about Linux: you
*know* someone's tried it before ;-).
Have you checked the Linux Documentation Project? You may find
some good help there:

Thanks much for any help!
I just tried do make noise on a Dell Latitude CSx notebook under

to do so...
(?)
I installed it -- './sound{on,off,config,check}' worked but I didn't

I have a Fuji DX10 (predecessor to the MX1200) and I use this program:
http://topo.math.u-psud.fr/~bousch/fujiplay.html
It does exactly what a digital camera download program should do in
my opinion:
fujiplay -d all
downloads all the pictures into the current directory and deletes them
from the camera. End of story. Unfortunately the download is as
miserably slow as in the provided Windows software since the camera
only manages about 4.5kbytes/sec regardless what baud rate you talk
to it at. I don't know if the MX1200 is better in this regard.
I tried gphoto not two weeks ago and it did not meet my basic stability
criterion: I was able to crash it within a minute of playing with it,
and bsides it could not reliably talk to the camera.
