I just bought a Cornerstone 20/70 monitor off ebay and it came with a
ImageAccel 2 video card. They are a fixed frequency pair and the seem
to work well in text mode but I have yet to get X in any thing but
340x320.

I am wondering if I should get a different video card or try a
commercial X server?

The monitor was a deal so I could spring for a good card.

A quick look at the Actiontec web site reveals a Master model that
indeed appears to be hardware with DOS support. They also list an
Advantage and a PCI model that appear to be Windows only and thus
"software" modems of some variety. You bought one? Does it say which
model it is or is it an OEM version. Can you identify the chipset on the
card? Rockwell/Conextant or some other? Thanks

Subject: cs4236 pop problem : pops in either linux or windows, or during boot
Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 05:27:59 GMT

Here is a somewhat similar situation that everyone has had:

Summary:
Dell OptiPlex Gx1
CS4236B onboard card
I hear the pops whether in linux with oss or kernel sound, OR even
during BOOT, or in Windows.
When it pops during playing Mp3s:

1)Right channel fades out into silence
2) Left stays audible always.
3) Right abrupbtly returns 30 seconds later, only to begin
again a number 1 30 seconds later.

Long Story:

I installed mandrake 6.1 a week ago, and I ran sndconfig a few days ago,
it seemed fine. I got a few MP3's and was playing songs pretty much all
the time the past few days with no problems until this morning when I
noticed the right channel disappearing on and off. Now, if no song is
playing, I just hear the lovely "POP". If a song is playing, the right
channel dissolves slowly into static then silence, then comes back with
the next POP.

One difference maybe from everyone else is that I have the pops no
matter what. That is, as soon as I turn the computer on, the pops will
come into my headphones. They simply get louder when the sound drivers
kick in :) If I boot to windows, I still get the pops. Someone suggested
it could be some kind of interference, but all I've done is move the
computer further back on the desk it's on since I've run
sndconfig...nothing else has changed around it.

I just hope something hasn't been ruined in the hardware itself, but I
wouldn't have the first clue about how to figure that one out.

Anyone else experience the pops no matter what os is running or during
boot? I notice the post I'm replying to mentions a "pop at bootup", but
it's not clear whether that means the continuous repititious pops that
I'm hearing no matter what.

won't boot. I turned off my IDE on the motherboard, but all I see are

Just upgraded to a tyan s1854 trinity 400 mobo with a pIII 600 EB proc.
Now I can't get my monster II 3d to work with any of the games I was
using before or the test3dfx. looked for answers on 3dfx.glide.linux
newsgroup and nothing. the rest of the system remained the same, matrox
g200, 8gig caviar drive, ensoniq creative soundcard. I also reinstalled
RH 6.0 and the glide and mesa drivers.
cat proc/pci shows the card. All i get are seg faults. I have 2 monster
II 3d cards, have tried using both cards alon and in different slots and
still nothing, any help would be much appriciated as I have pulling my
hai for the last 3 weeks.

p.s. the tyan board is rev 2.0 and I also tried flashing the bios.

the chipset is apollo via pro133

thanx, nick....

I have a scanner hooked up to and old adaptec AHA-1510A SCSI card. I am

for this card, but have had no luck. The closest I have come is a
confirmation that Linux does indeed support this card. Can you help?

Hi,

I've got an old SCSI CDROM Changer MBR-7, and I would really like to find a
way to get it working under Linux...

I've connected it up but I get what appear to be timeouts and SCSI bus
resets.

I've browsed through the HOWTO's and haven't found anything yet... Anyone
have any suggestions as to where to look next, what to try?

Thanks,

Thanks Joe for the help. Yes, it does show sound card modules as being
loaded. I just switched from RH 6.1 to Mandrake 7.0, just for kicks.
But it still has the same problem. Sound Card is a Creative SB PCI 128
with surround sound. Oddly enough, the CD player in Mandrake (KDE) is
even able to bring up a list of the tracks. So, it recognizes that
something is in the drive, just won't give any sound. What types of
things should I put/change in conf.modules. I can't find any types of
reference on the web for this type of problem.

Thanks

I would like to install RH6.0 or RH6.1 on my very old PC. box.
This box uses Reveal CD-ROM drive which came bundled
with SC400 Multimedia sound card.

RH installer __does__not__ recognize CDrom drive. It does not matter
which CDROM driver I pick, CD ROM does not work, therefore
I can not install RH distribution..

Does anybody know HOW to install Linux in such a case ??

Any help, idea, trick or , perhaps, solution, is more than welcome

From: Davis Eric <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Painful SiS6326 and XFree86 4.0?
Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2000 07:29:56 GMT

Hi, there,

Just want to tell you my recent experience with this hopeless card. I
have tried XFree86 3.3.3, XFree86 3.3.6 and this XFree86 4.0.

I let the tar balls of XFree86 4.0 to overwrite my old XF86 3.3.6
because I have made back up of it. So, I began my painful ordeal.

It turned out that the introduced tool called XFree86 -configure did
not work well with my on-board SiS6326 card. It gave me a blank screen
with some meshed background. It was just like the background when GNOME
in RH 6.0 starts. I guess that it was part of a whole Xwindow.

So, I turned to the old RH6.0 setup. I used "X configuration" in the
setup. But it turned out that it could not test X-window. It told me
that "there is a problem with your Xwindow...". So, I have to change
again.

Finally, I used xf86config. It gave me the Xwindow with the new Xserver
using 8 bpp. But I can not start Xwindow with 16 bpp, not to mention 24
bpp.

With 8 bpp, there were still some problems. I could not find the
pointer of my Logitech Serial mouse. It is Microsoft compatiable.
Although there was no pointer for the mouse, I could switch from one
xterm to another by moving my mouse. So, it was kind of a game in which
I had to guess where was my mouse actually pointed to.

Also, there seemed that it still had the same glitches as the previous
x server to SiS6326, such as the shades on the items after the
highlight moved away.

So, I don't know what is going wrong. Especially for my mouse. It was
said that XFree86 4.0 supports SiS6326 better than ever. But...

BTW, my hardwares worked just well in XFree86 3.3.6 except the slow
refresh rate in 24 bpp.

If there are anyone else who has done some work with XFree86 4.0 on
SiS6326, could you share your experience?

Davis,
