Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 05 Lun: 00
Vendor: ARCHIVE Model: VIPER 150 21247 Rev: -005
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 01
This unit takes 250MB tapes (DC6250). It probably can deal with
with the 150MB tapes too.
It is a streaming tape type. I have one here on my Linux box
and the unit is happy. These used to be very popular a few
years back (and I mean 5-10 years). They are too small for
today's disk sizes. I use it to transfer data between my Linux
box and my pc532 which has only a slow ppp network connection.
It works find on the pc532 using NetBSD.

Your CD-ROM has been recognized, but you are using the disc label as your
filesystem and not what the FS actually is. You can try 2 different
commands,
% mount -t vfat /dev/hdc /cdrom
--- or ---
% mount -t msdos /dev/hdc /cdrom
Those are both incase your CD was created with a FAT filesystem or a DOS
filesystem. Try it out.

Most CRT (not LCD) monitors, even old 14" ones, are capable of being driven in
1024x768, INTERLACED, at 43 frames per second (I'm doing that now).
I'd recommend playing with your XFree86 configuration files and xvidtune.
Xvidtune will only work within the range of settings specified for your card and
driver, and the defaults for these settings tend to be fairly conservative (due
largely to variations in how the cards are designed and produced, and the
resulting quality). I had to add the setting to mine, after checking my card's
manual to ensure that it was indeed capable of doing it.
Once you get used to the epileptic seizures due to the flickering, it's really
quite usable...

There is no such setting in my CMOS. I find it wierd though that there
is a conflict becuase the howtos mentioned DOS com 2 irq 3 as pretty
standard.

The high frequency sound is continuous. I believe that it is coming from
my monitor. I have a 17" Acer 77S that is set to the maximum recommended
resolution. Choosing a lower resolution may solve this problem.
Any other ideas?

I like WD (better quality models only), and the Maxtor's. Samsung and
Seagates are ones to stay away from unless you like throwing the drives away
after a year (coincidentally when warranty expires), or having to wait
upwards of 4 months to get it back from warranty repair.

I have a simlar problem with the interal Model #5687-03
You really do need to read the bar code on the box for the full serial
number. Have a look at http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/20000317a.html
If you cat /var/adm/messages what is it saying when it tries to dial ?
If you use setstring -a /dev/ttyS1 what do you get as the UART type ?
I find that if it autoconfigures it doesn't know the UART type. I'm not clear
why. I have considered playing with isapnp but it looks like a three Sunday
project.
Any answers to the 'setstring -a /dev/ttyS1' from anybody who has this working
would be greatfully received.

Funny, I was just thinking that some Windows folks ought to get together
and plan and implement some good, thorough documentation on Windows. I
don't mean the plethora of useless books that computer bookstores sell,
I mean stuff that gives real information and how to work around all the
bugs and problems. :-)

Subject: Server information
Date: Thu, 23 Mar 2000 03:08:46 GMT
Hi,
We need a new powerful server for our website. I need some sugestion
for hardwar vendor. My company is considering using Cubix. Any one have
been use it? Thanks in advance. The following is my company's requirement:
System we need:
1. Load balancing
2. High availability
3. Fault tolerant
4. Fail over
5. Cluster
Software:
1. Turbo Linux cluster server 4.0 (6.0?)
2. Front end using Apache web server and PHP script language
3. Back end using MySQL
Hardware:
1. 2 load balancing server(Celeron)
2. 2 Pentium III single processor board (running Apache and PHP)
3. 2 Dual Pentium III board(running MySQL)
Questions:
1. If to use RAID, does all systems(boards) share the same RAID or each
computer has its own RAID?
2. How can we configure second IP under fail over situation? For example,
one from a dedicated line and other using DSL. How about DNS?
3. What is the capacity of such system?
4. How can we upgrade if needed?
