Bonjour Jean-Sebastien!

Do you probably have a Via VP Pro chipset on your board? I had some
problems under win98 with my sb128pci, because the irq mapping didnt work.
If you have such a chipset you have to enable "pci quirks" in the kernel
config, this should resolve the problems with bad irqs.
My card worked perfectly under linux, right from the beginning, with irq 10
and i/o 0xec00.

How do you burn mp3 files onto cd's in cdda format? I can't find any conv=

it might help to know that the specific HOWTO you'll be looking for to set
this up is the IPCHAINS-HOWTO. I also recommend this, it works great
here.. if you must use the windows modemsharing then set that up, and
when you set-up your linux box, have it point to the ip address of the
windows box as the default gateway. also when choosing addresses for your
local net make sure they're part of the private address range (the Net3-4
howto explains this if you need explanation).

hi

Ive got a GMS phone with a built in modem and it connects to my laptop
with a cable via the serial port. Now in windows the phone will detect
that it is connected to a computer but in linux it wont. What is
different about the serial port in linux?

Has anyone managed to make lm_sensors work on a TYAN S1590S motherboard

modprobe the latest versions into the system.

Thanks for the tip, but where did you get the numbers? My /var/log has
numbers different from /proc/pci...

How did you compile the kernel? I've tried 'Boot offboard IDE first',
append='pci=reverse' and other options, but it still locks just before the
decompression stage. The kernel never starts enough to even look for an IDE
controlller, so I don't think that the IDE card is the problem...

Perhaps I need to recompile without bz...

Hmm. Your installation probably has something like XFree86 3.3.2.
The current version is 3.3.6 and that does seem to list the Savage4
as compatible.

I presume by "Vendor" you don't mean Mandrake. Their site is packed
with Linux-related information.

I'd suggest updating to a later version of XFree86. You can download
this from Mandrake's web site, (www.linux-mandrake.com) or just get
a later version of Linux Mandrake. (The current one is 7.0)

The default block size for Exabytes on Sun is 63k. The default buffer
size for SCSI tapes in Linux is 32k. See the problem?

Edit /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/st_options.h and change this:

/* The tape driver buffer size in kilobytes. */
#define ST_BUFFER_BLOCKS 32

64 works for me. Yes, that Sun default is 63k, not 64k. Don't know
why.

Yes, I have it running at home on one. It was not entirely
straightforward to get running, but fairly solid once it is.
The sensor chip itself is kind of braindead, so you have to
set it up in a sort of iterative mode.

Later I can give you specifics, though it take until next
week. It took a bit sorting through all the via-i2c stuff,
and getting the right sensor chip defined, etc.

Yeah, that'd rule that problem out... Hmmm. The only other thing I can
suggest is to compile sound support into the kernel (make sure to enable
EXPERIMENTAL DRIVERS, then choose the AudioPCI driver -- *not* as a module,
but compiled into the kernel). If that still doesn't work, you may be
experiencing an IRQ/DMA conflict. If that's the case, you might try
pulling all boards except the sound card and then add boards back one by
one until you can repeat the problem.

I have installed Redhat 6.1 on a Compaq Proliant with an
internal DLT4000 tape drive. I can access the drive via
/dev/st0 and it seems to work for small backups.

We backup our machines using cpio. After the backup we
verify the files on the tape are the same as those written,
but using cpio -itC65536 we get lots of errors about cpio
skipping 4096 bytes of junk.

Anyone any ideas ?

Hello.

Middle of last week, I downloaded and installed Cartman. Things went
very well and I've managed to get a really great copy of linux on my
machine. This week I've been working on getting a few misc things
working. The biggest thing I'm working on right now is getting the
linux box to print. I've got a HP Deskjet 694c and I read about which
drivers to use. The install seemed like it would be simple.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to get printtool to recognize my parallel
port. It will not autodetect the port, and I can't manually specify the
print job to go to /dev/lp0 without the printing ASCII directly to port
producing a error message. I can only assume that for whatever WEIRD
reason, upon installation Linux did not recognize the port.
How can I go about fixing this. I would assume that the first thing
that I'm going to have to do is to get /dev/lp0 working, and then the
printtool setup *should* be a snap. So, how does one tweak their lp0
settings for this?

if possible, can you please send your reply to my e-mail address

thanks alot for any assistance that you can provide!

Try setting ttyS2 to use irq 11. The irq 9 cascades interrupts from
the higher interrupt controller down to irq 2 (it doesn't matter what
this means, it's a vestigial hardware compatibility thing from the old
IBM XT and AT days 20 years ago), and the serial port code might have a
problem with 2 or 9 for the port.

While this will work, cdrecord writes each wave file as a separate
track. This may confuse some cdplayers and/or generate clicks and
pops between tracks. You also have no control over the lead-in and
lead-out. If you are a perfectionist, you will want to use CDRDAO
which writes in the more common Disk At Once mode. More info about
CDRDAO can be found at: http://www.ping.de/sites/daneb/cdrdao.html
