Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has ever gotten the CanoScan FB-620P/U scanners
up running under Linux, even with wine?

After further tweaking I solved my intermittency problem by moving the 1394
dv card from slot 4 to slot 5.
-I think it's very bizarre that I was getting 50% or 97% functionality from
my network card in various slots. I would think it would either be 100% or
nothing at all.
I'm curious.. Is this normal??
(by the way.. Bios 1003)

Subject: Adaptec SCSI card no longer works. Cheap PCI instead?
Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2000 16:53:42 GMT

I have an Agfa SnapScan 310 scanner which came with a cheap Adaptec ISA
SCSI card. Since I changed my motherboard the card no longer works with
Linux - it complains about IRQ 9 and I cannot change it because all
usable IRQs the card can work with are already taken.

Basically I am thinking of buing a cheap PCI SCSI card which will work
with the scanner and with Linux. Do you think this would be a sensible
way forward? Would a PCI card be more likely to work?

I am using a Debian Potato distro and a GigaByte GA-5AA MB with AMD K6-2
500 MHz CPU.

This is the current error message during bootup:

Apr 1 14:31:01 scgf kernel: aha152x: processing commandline: ok
Apr 1 14:31:01 scgf kernel: aha152x: BIOS test: passed, detected 1

IRQ=9, SCSI ID=7, reconnect=enabled, parity=enabled,
synchronous=disabled, delay=100, extended translation=disabled
Apr 1 14:31:01 scgf kernel: aha152x: trying software interrupt, lost.
Apr 1 14:31:01 scgf kernel: aha152x: IRQ 9 possibly wrong. Please
verify.

I have the following in /etc/lilo.conf:

append="aha152x=0x140,9,7"

I know IRQ 9 is OK because I have disabled P&P and manually set it up.
As I say, it used to work fine with my previous MB and I haven't changed
anything since.

This is what I get with 'cat/proc/interrupts':

  0: 479410 XT-PIC timer
  1: 2663 XT-PIC keyboard

The Boca BB2016 is a good choice also. I used them when I was an ISP. I also
used Rocketport products, but had problems with them not initializing the
modems correctly to answer after a caller hungup. The BB2016 never gave me a
minute's trouble.

Anyone help out with the following:

Starting XCD-Roast I get the following error - no generic scsi support. The
message suggests to load module sg. Using 'insmod sg', I get an error
because module sg is already loaded. Roast sees my CDRW as a CDROM but not
as a writer.

I'm running Caldera 2.4, with a DVD-ROM as secondary master and a HP-8200i

respectively.

I am fairly new to this so any help appreciated.

Is this similar to overclocking a CPU?

SuSE 6.3, the latest from them, is usually at or ahead of the other
distros in most instances from what others tell me but I'll check the
version number nonetheless.

Cool. Yeah, I wasn't sure how that worked.

OK. This answers my question. I won't go 120Hz but I think 85Hz would
suffice, which, IIRC, is what my manual recommends. Nevertheless I'll
check to be sure before going too far with it at the default.

That's your problem, if the CD-RW is being recognized as /dev/hdd. I hate
to say this, but may have to reboot the machine(!) unless lsmod shows that
ide-cd is loaded as a module. If you reboot, at the LILO prompt, enter
   linux hdd=ide-scsi
and the IDE driver that's probably compiled into the kernel will not grab
hdd. When the machine boots, "modprobe sr_mod" and "modprobe sg". Then
your CD-RW will be on /dev/scd0 (for reading) and /dev/sg0 (writing) if
everything works well.

If the modprobe commands fail in some way, take it step-by-step and post
the errors or mail them to me.
insmod ide-scsi (IDE-SCSI emulation)
insmod scsi_mod (SCSI as a module)
insmod sr_mod (SCSI CD-ROMs)
insmod sg (SCSI Generic)

Check the CD-Writing-HOWTO as well:

Can a PCI modem be used with Linux kernel 2.2.14 or 2.3.99-pre3? If so, how
can I configure it? I'm using S.u.S.E. 6.2. Thanks in advance

Once you get the message: "Uncompressing ...." you are beyond the bios
and into the Linux kernel. I am sure this is not a bios problem.

The file to change is probably /dev/3dfx. Do it like this:

chmod a+rw /dev/3dfx

However, this assumes that you have installed and loaded the 3dfx kernel
module. You should be able to find this at the same place where you got
the drivers for your Voodoo card.

Excuse me, but if your looking at a modem, very few of them list the chipset
on the outside of the box, and the chance of finding out what modem is in a
machine like a Dell is very slim indeed. I don't know with the popularity
of Linux these days, as a modem maker I would put "Works with Linux" and Tux
on the box.. Right beside the Microsoft Windows logo (am I the only one
that thinks it looks like someone just put their foot through it, because
Windows crashed for the 47th time.....

Real simple.

You want the emu10k1[date_in_julian_form].tar.gz

There are also a couple of web pages for setup info that a google search
off freshmet.net will find.

Its being actively developed, so check back every 2-3 days for the
latest version.

Cheers, Gene

Subject: SuSE 6.2 and ISDN - External TA.
Date: Sat, 1 Apr 2000 19:49:18 +0100

Hi,

I'm trying to set up an external TA (BT Speedway), to run on COM1 / TTYS0 on
a laptop running SuSE 6.2.

I'm not at all sure where to start. Having read all the FAQs / Howtos all
seem to refer to internal cards used in conjunction with I4L. The only
reference to external TAs was to say that they are easier to configure and
that they do not use I4L.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

(ps. I can read German if anyone would like to post auf Deutsch!)

2.3.30 is old. You should probably try the latest 2.3 kernel (2.3.99 I
think), or use the patch for kernel 2.2.14 which you can find at:
