Not so. You are on Linux? Install you own DNS server.

As you can tell I'm proud of my new 40 GB HD :-). Here's my problem: I
put a 24GB FAT32 partition at the end of the drive, for data, so I could
access it from both win98 and linux. Win 98 can get to it fine, which
means the partition is properly formatted :-). Linux can't mount it,
however. Is this a bug in linux FAT32 support??
 -vg

P.S. RedHat 6.2, stock kernel, i.e. 2.2.14. The disk also has a boot
win98 partition, an ext2 partition, and a swap partition, all of which
linux can get to.

P.P.S. Before posting this nonsense question I spent at least 20 minutes
on dejanews looking for the answer, and the only thing I can conclude is
that, perhaps, people with >33 GB drives don't use them for FAT32
partitions.. Hmm..

P.P.S. When replying by e-mail, don't forget to remove NOSPAM from the
address (I sometimes do=;)

Victor:

I'm running 2.2.14 here, so I took a dash over to /usr/src/linux and
checked... I don't think this kernel even supports FAT32 (at least
there's no option for it in "make xconfig"). It supports FAT,
but no mention of FAT32.

I'm sure there's someone on this ng that knows more about it than
I do, and hopefully they'll speak up if I'm wrong, but you may be
SOL trying to access FAT32.

I guess, you're wrong. It's called vfat.

My Linux at home happily accesses FAT32 partitions.
My Linux at work doesn't even have any FAT or gristle.

Yeah, he could do that, but he shouldn't have to. In any case, he still
has to have the IP address of a DNS server, even if it's 127.0.0.1
(if he's running his own). If he decides to run his own name server,
he'll have to have the IP addresses of the root servers, which opens up
a whole 'nuther can of worms.

I stand by my statement; if the ISP won't give him the IP address of
their
nameserver, he should change ISPs.

I've seen evidence that people have USB KVM switchers working with USB
keyboards etc. How would it work with the Adder USB KVM which supports
PS/2 mice and keyboards? i.e. Keyboard input is coming via USB but it
is actually a PS/2 keyboard.

I'm quite tempted by one of these as it will reduce the cables from the
KVM to the PC by 33% and allow me to share USB devices between Linux/98
& 2000.

Comments?

Yes it will - use a recent version of pppd (2.3.7 or newer)
which has the 'usepeerdns' option to get the DNS ip's from the peer
(i.e., your isp). You can then hack an ip-up script to automatically
copy them to /etc/resolv.conf.

Try this. Use pico or another editor to open /etc/lilo.conf and add the
line, append="mem=128M", (include the quotes shown. Save the changes to
lilo.conf. Then type, /sbin/lilo and the next time you reboot it should use

Not true. If you take a drive appart the internal parts are all in one
large compartment. There is no seal between the platters and anything else.
If there were, there wouldn't be any reason for the breather hole.

on my network. Many of the HP Pavilions use a particularly evil
sound/modem
combo card (fits in a pci slot), might be what is in the 8650 also.
Neither
part of which works under Linux. Doesn't work all that well under
windows
either.

k7 would be much better. and even a 600 isn't all that expensive.

and I'd err on the side of more ram. 128 won't hack it for lots of
users (jobs).
