Take a look at mt (man mt). Try man densities and man setdensity

Do you have a chipset on your mobo that Linux supports for Ultra DMA?
If not, then the max you're gonna get is about 16.6Megs a second because
that's all the interface can handle.

You should be able to use mt -f /dev/st0 setdensity [density code] to
set the tape density and compression. Look up the proper code in the
manual for your tape drive.

I hope this would still be helpful for others.

Still Choose the HP laserjet 4, r600x600 via printtool in control-panel

login as root, run following commands:

cd /usr/lib/rhs
echo -ne '\33%-12345X' > pjl-head
echo "@PJL SET RESOLUTION=600" >> pjl-head
echo -ne '\33%-12345X' >pjl-end
cd rhs-printfilters

now, edit the file ps-to-printer.fpi
change this line to new lines:
     - >/dev/null 2>&1 ; cat $TMPFILE ; rm $TMPFILE "

new line:
       - >/dev/null 2>&1 ; cat /usr/lib/rhs/pjl-head>/tmp/pjl_encap_out ;  \
      cat $TMPFILE >>/tmp/pjl_encap_out ;\
      cat /usr/lib/rhs/pjl-end >> /tmp/pjl_encap_out; \
      cat /tmp/pjl_encap_out ; \
      rm $TMPFILE ; rm /tmp/pjl_encap_out "

Note: this applies to rh6.1 for lpd, maybe others too.
          it is a rough fix, not professional. PDQ driver users have better luck.
          following are the PJL commands can be append after pjl-head to
     get the full out of the printer. (there may be others, I don't know.)

@PJL SET RAS1200MODE=OFF
@PJL SET RESOLUTION=300
@PJL DEFAULT AUTOSLEEP=ON
@PJL DEFAULT TIMEOUTSLEEP=1
@PJL SET AUTOSLEEP=ON
@PJL SET TIMEOUTSLEEP=1
@PJL SET ECONOMODE=OFF
@PJL SET MEDIATYPE=REGULAR
@PJL SET LANG=ENGLISH
@PJL SET PAGEPROTECT=AUTO
@PJL SET ERRORPRINT=ON
@PJL SET SOURCETRAY=TRAY1
@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL

I tried this, but instead of helping my computer it hurt it. I was getting
around 10 or 11 when I did hdparm but when I typed that line, and I did type it
correctly...it dropped to 1-2 when I looked at hdparm. So next solution?

I'm running RedHat 6.1, and sometimes when I'm in X-windows and try to get
the wharf-menu up nothing happends. It just idly reads form my HD, which is
hda1 (I also have a CD at hdc). So I just have to turn the power off. But
when I boot directly after that. My BIOS can't autodetect my HD. I had
AMI-BIOS, but flashed it to Award. Same shit.
I have to wait an hour or two, than everythings allright. Is it a hardware
only problem? My chipset is a SIS5513, and I have a rather shitty 3GB
Quantom HD. My Mainboard manufacturer is MSI (www.msi.co.tw).
This is really irretating, since I working on this to make it a server.
Anybody had similar problems?
