Hmm. That list was wrong; AFAIK *no* distribution, including I think
Mandrake 7.2, supports the Lexmrk z52.

The driver, however, does actually exist. See this printer's entry in
my database: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=328553

Use the stp driver from the Gimp-print project. See

Not that I know of. There's a chance that it might work with the lbp8
Ghostscript driver.

If you do find anything out, please add it to

...or just mail me.

Sorry, I haven't used linuxconf and RH 6.2 myself and have found it hard
to help people using that to set up their network connections.

Because that is the broadcast address when you have your IP-address and
netmask. A broadcast address is the address you send to when you want to
tell something to everyone on the same subnet.

> How do I do this?

Again, I'm not familiar with linuxconf which probably is the tool you
should use. Maybe it is possible for you to do

ifconfig eth0 broadcast 24.150.5.255

But you would lose that setting at your next reboot.

This will only work if the "fdomain" module is loaded. It will have to
be part of the initial ramdisk image or compiled into the kernel as well.

When the disk is not mounted, the front-panel eject button will work.

If you press this buttong when the disk is mounted, it should do
nothing, since Linux locks devices with mounted media in them. The
drive will remember that you pushed the button, hoewver, and will eject
when you unmount it.

If you want to do a software eject, there is a program called "eject".
In RedHat, the package name is also eject. It should do what you want.

Note, however, that the eject program may have to be run as root in
order to work. On my system (with a SCSI Zip drive), I could only eject
CDs without turning on the setuid bit on the eject executable.

I have one (an external) from the pre-V.90 days that runs great. Nothing
special in the kernel is needed. If you want to take advantage of the
modem's voice capability, you'll want to get vgetty (part of mgetty+sendfax)
and set that up. Mine is set up to answer phone calls, receive faxes, and
allow dial-in access to my computer...all on one phone line.

Jim, you say to set DHCP_HOSTNAME=cxxxxxxx, which is the id number your cable
setup gives you. I don't know this number, how can I find it?

When installing to a Promise ATA66 controller, you must specify the device
address before booting,so the machine knows where the HD is located. This is
what i did:
1.Boot linux from the cd in text mode
2.Switch to another console by ALT-F2
3.Type cat /proc/pci | more
4.Look for your Promise controller listed and write down the addresses
listed for it.
5.Reboot the machine
6.At the boot: prompt type the address of the Promise controller as part of
the boot. The second and fourth memory addresses need to be increased by 2
each.
In my case it was:
linux ide2=0x0160,0x101f ide3=0x1020,0x1080
7.Now the HD should show up during the install process. After installing, you
need to add the drive parameters to the lilo.conf file.
