Does it print OK when you press the form feed button on the printer (is
there one?)
If so, try setting "Send EOF after job to eject page" in the printing
options with printtool.
If not, you probably need to install the correct driver.

Nothing that I have found. Other than clicking noises before and after
sounds play, it works great on my i810 ac97 motherboard.

They are not supported under linux. They are difficult to get working,
especially the 4000 series. You'll have better luck with a 6000 or 8000
series.
The business computers have much better linux support, but don't come
with all the multimedia gadgets (which can be added on later anyway).
These are the Brio, Vectra, or Kayak PCs.

As stated in the message to which you replied, the Optra Color 40 is a
PostScript printer. As such, it needs to special treatment in Linux.
(BTW, although there are no Ghostscript drivers for many Lexmark inkjets,
Lexmark has produced OS/2 drivers for most of their inkjets. This hardly
qualifies as "worship of the great god Micros$oft," IMHO.)

Large numbers of PCMCIA (and CardBus) adapters are supported on Linux. I'm

I am the not-so-proud owner of a new Compaq Presario which has an on-board
video chipset that
is probed as a Trident Cyberblade /i7.
XF86Setup identifies the chipset OK, but Xwindows does not work with it. I
called RedHat support and they
say that they do not have a driver to support this chipset, and suggested I
check on the internet to see if anyone has put together a linux-compatible
driver for the Trident Cyberblade /i7.
I wonder if anyone has run into this difficulty and/or has any ideas where I
can get an driver.
I'm dead in the water until I can resolve this, so would very much
appreciate an answer soon.
Many thanks!!

Thanks for the advice...
I spent a long time researching my choices the other day and they
both are fully supported under linux. They even come with instructions
on how to set them up in linux. 8^) I have had a lot of good replies
about the PCI including one that said it was the easiest modem they have
ever set up in linux. It is one of the few controller based (real
hardware modem) PCI modems on the market. I also read through all of
the responses on cnet about it and there were several enthusiastic
postings about it's use in linux. So I think I made a good choice.
Here is the url for an informative sight I found about modems that are
supported in linux (check out the huge table). They also off lots of
info and even detail what modems are available at certain stores.

I must have been tired when I wrote that... just to clarify:
For each IDE drive you have in your system, where N is the letter of the
drive, do:
'hdparm -i /dev/hdN' - check for MultSect=X
'hdparm -mX /dev/hdN' - sets multcount to X
I suppose it's possible that a smaller than X value in the -m line might be
more efficient, but I haven't played around with it enough to know. All I
know is that in several days I haven't seen a single "No DRQ after..."
error, or ANY other /dev/ideX related error, when I was getting up to 100 a
day before.

You need a very recent version of XFree86. I use this chipset successfully
with XFree86 3.3.6 (as included with Mandrake 7.0). I think support was
added with XFree86 3.3.4, but I'm far from positive of that; it may have
been 3.3.5 or even 3.3.6. For details of my configuration, check my web

Like a previous post mentioned, changing the permissions does seem to
work. IMHO, this is becuase the printing daemon doesn't have the proper
rights to access the spool directory. I have the same problem (In fact,
I was going to address this issue this evening) and it occured to me to
check the uid of the print daemon and match the spool directory to the
uid (and group) of the print daemon.

Does anyone know where I can get drivers for some old Thomas-Conrad
TC5045 ethernet cards (16-bit ISA, copyright '93) I bought (really
cheap, of course--$5 for 6 of 'em). I have a manual and a 5-1/4 floppy
with them, and I d/l'ed some drivers from compaq (I don't know why they
have TC stuff, but they do), but the compaq drivers are the same as
what's on the floppy -- dos netware, odi, stuff like that, no win95.
And it's not in the list under win95, and win95 doesn't detect it. I
also see no mention of it under any Linux page--are there any drivers
out there?
Thanks in advance for any help.

No need to do anything to your hard disk.
You will need to use a DOS boot disk; that's safer than

Good luck. I believe the Diamond DSL PCI card has drivers. Careful

Is there really a card that is both a 56k, and a DSL modem? Sounds
