hi, I've got the same problem, well, I think it is.
maybe this info will help (the author?) to solve the problem...

I'm using slackware 7 with the 2.2.16 kernel and cdrecord 1.8.1.
The hp cd-writter 7200i used to work great in my old system but since I
updated my linux not anymore.

// the usual stuff
// cdrecord -version
