No, I ran XF86 3.3.5 that did not support my V3 video card as an SVGA
card at 800x600 and 768x1024.

Just play with it in reason. Think about what sort of card yours is
related to, and see what happens.

Herman

I use redhat 6.2 with the kernel 2.4.0-test2.
I am trying to get my SyQuest sparq hard drive mounted at startup. After
startup I can use the following commands to mount the drive--

insmod paride
insmod epat
insmod pd
mount /dev/pda1 /mnt/SyQuest

I know for the mount command I can add an entry into the fstab file. But
what about the other three commands what format and which file do they go
in. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to Linux and this newsgroup so please excuse if this is a question
which has been asked before...

I've installed Linux Mandrake 7.0 and the installation guide says my PCI
modem is not supported. Is there any way around this (adding another serial
port etc?) or am I better off just buying an external modem? Or is there an
newer version of the OS which does support PCI modems?

Further to this, what is a good modem to buy to use with linux? Is it safest
just to get an external modem. So many modems (including external modems)
seem to have some sort of reliance on windows.

Anyone know any particular modems that present few problems under linux?

Hi,

i know of 2 possebilitys for you

1. put the commands in your rc.local -File, normally locate at /etc/rc.d/

2. Modules are loaded at boottime from /etc/conf.modules or
/etc/modules.conf (only one should exist!)
add apropriate entries there like "alias foobar paride" and so on. Replace
foobar with an corresponding name. Try 'man conf.modules' for more help on
the syntax of that file.

hope this helps

Michael

Real PCI modems work fine in Linux, it's winmodems that don't work. I
have a US Robotics PCI voice modem and it works fine. If you want to be
on the safe side external modems always work.

I would put my command at the end of the file
/etc/rc.d/rc.local

You need to be a root to modify this file.

Hope this helps. Best regards,

I've got a patch that integrates that patch with several other useful
ones.

Check out: http://www.jasons.org/megapatch/

There are two versions... One includes Jens Axboe's CD/DVD bugfixes
to 2.2.16, Andre Hedrick's IDE patches, SuSE's usb-backport, and reiserfs.

The other has all that stuff, plus a number of patches that came out of
the RedHat 2.2.16 release, such as:

linux-2.2.16-ksym-version.patch
linux-2.2.16-server-tuning.patch
linux-2.2.16-fb-modules.patch
linux-2.2.16-loop.patch
linux-2.2.16-vm-backout.patch
linux-2.2.16-combo.patch
linux-2.2.16-rawio.patch
linux-2.2.16-iobuffix.patch
linux-2.2.16-raw-fixup.patch
linux-2.2.16-raw-fixup2.patch
linux-2.2.16-raid-B2.patch
linux-2.2.16-bigmem.patch
linux-2.2.16-bigmem-dcache.patch
linux-2.2.16-bigmem-raw.patch
linux-2.2.16-bigmem-initrd.patch
linux-2.2.14-PIII.patch
linux-2.2.14-PIII-xor.patch
linux-2.2.16-emu10k1.patch
linux-2.2.16-aic7xxx-5.1.29.patch
linux-2.2.16-aic7xxx-5.1.30.patch
linux-2.2.16-aic7xxx-5.1.31.patch

The emu10k1 patch doesn't seem to work properly. The module generates
unresolved symbols. Grabbing the emu10k1 sources from Creative Labs'
CVS and installing fixed the problem instantly.

Depending on the age of your distribution you may need to
recompile the TULIP driver for your card. The card came
with 2 disks (I have one of these cards there should be 2)
on the second disk you will find a linux directory with the
file tulip.c in it. cp this file to /usr/src/linux/drivers/net
and replace the old one. Then recompile your kernel with this
option as a module or compiled into the kernel.

If you have an further problems mail me I'll see if I can help.

Also, by using pre-install lines in your conf.modules you should be able to
have the kernel load everything automatically whenever you access (mount)
/dev/pda1. Again, read the man-pages, post back if you have problems (or if
it works!)

Good luck!

Anyone considering the purchase of a Sony peripheral for their computer
might want to give it some further thought. There clearly is not a
reciprocal relationship between what they sell and what they service.
-
I purchased a CD-RW drive back in April that just recently went bad
(won't read). When I called Sony service, I was told that I could not
get a replacement and that I had to ship it across the country to be
"repaired" (and we all know what that means...) - with a three (3) week
turnaround. Assuming that they keep their 3-week commitment, with
shipping both ways, I'd be without the use of the unit for at least
five weeks!!!
-
I hardly think that's reasonable or fair.
-
Compare this to HP, who under the same circumstances would simply ship
you out a replacement unit and issue a call-tag for the old one.
-
Sony is a behemoth in the marketplace and as such, they have an
obligation to scale their service facilities to meet demand. To not do
so is an indication of their lack of commitment to customer satisfaction
and an unwillingness to stand behind their products.
