You didn't even read my message, did you?

Go to KryoTech's site. They sell systems with large air conditioner
units built-in to the case. They actively chill the CPU chip to -40
degrees.

I am _NOT_ talking about the operational temperature range.

As for your 100 degree figure, please tell me which PC CPU is rated to
function at that temperature. A URL to the manufacturer's documentation
would be nice.

Thank you very much.

Subject: kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error?
Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 16:19:00 GMT

before i upgraded a couple of my systems to PCI-capable machines,
i never got the following error:
kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error?

and what's odd is that i don't _always_ get it now. sometimes i boot
the system, it all works perfectly. sometimes i boot, i get the above
errors repeatedly, and sound doesn't work.

my sound card is a an ersatz SB-compatible card, made by aztech (i think).
it's an isa card.

as far as i can tell, i have no irq conflicts. i've done the right
bios stuff to set aside the irq for the soundcard. i'm a little unclear
on how to manage the dma channels though -- is there a clean way to do that?

i've searched the web for references to this error, and found a few
discussions in the linux kernel archives from last year, but nothing
conclusive.

i'm running 2.2.13 on the systems in question.

any help or pointers would be much appreciated

I've used xev. The program gives me two (4 for Press/Release) identical
scancodes.
I want to use this sequence of scancodes as an unique scancode.

However, thanx for your answer.

I recently downloaded StarOffice, and burned it to a CD. The file has a .bin
extension. Being a newbie to Linux I am not quite sure on how to proceed in
installing this application.

I am use to installing .rpm files, but have not installed a file w/a .bin
extension. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

TIA!

Hi I have an HP692C deskjet printer which I've configured for linux (RH62
with kernel 2.2.16-3). My /etc/printcab looks like

##PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL cdj670 300x300 letter {} DeskJet670 Default {}
lp:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :mx#0:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :if=/var/spool/lpd/lp/filter:

I can print from every program (Netscape, PAN, XV, etc) except from the
shell prompt. When I try
cat filename|lpr
I get a blank page or sometimes the first line in the page.

Any ideas??

Unforcunatley I haven't had a GeForce 2, but I might still be able to help
you:

Have you visiting the nVidia site|? There, in the driver section you can find
"drivers" for the GeForce as any other card (my Diamond Viper V550 works
great). The good thing is those aren't drivers but the whole X server pathced
by nVidia to work only with their own cards! And it does work great! you can
even get a binary so all you would have to do is get the X down and replace the
old binary with the new one. The other thing which might be bothering you is
the MB. Try and play with it a little, for a while: basicly just set it the
most conservative way, put the nVidia X and try: then it should work fine. (Ad
test the cooling of course, no overclocking goes without saying). Then you can
speedit up one step after anoher, untill ou reach the top where everything
works. Thna just lower it again for one step and stick to that.

If, on the other hand, you want to go on as planed I can recomend MSI MS-5163
board for K6-2. Don't know if it will run on 500MHz, but is should. It's an
older board, but with ALI V chipset, which is the best Super 7 set ever built
and I used it with no problems. 64MB is fine, if you don't want to use too much
software at once: I used similar configuration with X, Netscape, Emacs and
MySQL and Sybase databases runing, plus apache, sendmail.... It worked OK, but
I had a feeling that 128 would be blazing fast. Depends on what are you in to.

hope this helps,
nk.

have you looked at the man pages for loadkeys, dumpkeys, showkey, and

have you looked in /var/log/messages (i think) for reports of unknown
scancodes after using your keyboard?

i was able to load up values for a similar keyboard that i have. (though

By the way, I want to warn you that you should be careful when you install
StarOffice if you use KDE. The install wipes out all of your KDE settings and
tells you that a new version of KDE has been installed. This wasn't a huge
problem for me until I went to my KDE address book and found all of the entries
wiped out. I was not pleased. Just a heads up.

I've been using the Asus K7V for 3-4 month now and besides some initial
problems
with the onboard card, I have found only minor problems (warm boot jumps into
BIOS
every time, but I thing there is an kernal option to fix this).
Using the ALSA sound drivers.

I havent used the IDE controller because I use SCSI, but havent read about
any
