I have dug deeper into the PCI64 spec. The "IRQ Pin Assertion Register"
(which is presumably this extra functionality) is an 8-bit IO register
at 0x20 that only reads bits 0-4 and only accepts values between 0 and
23. These values are IRQ virtual pin numbers to be asserted. Therefore I
would guess that every IRQ pin would potentially need a handler. My APIC
boot-up messages seem to imply that only pins 0-17 and 19 are connected
to anything.

I have Debian kernel 2.2.16 with a brooktree video card. I've loaded the
bttv modules in the kernel, but I am getting no sound. I'm using xwatv
and the video comes up just perfect, but no sound. I was wondering if
there are any special sound modules for this card I need installed? Or if
there is anyone else out there that had this same problem and found a way
to fix it?
Thanks!

Hi,
I have an AMD am29000 thinclient which boots and registers with the
server for ip (via dhcp). It will attempt to retrieve a boot image from the
server (bootp) however as the am29000 is a risc chip I have no boot images
for it. Could anyone give me any hints or point me in the right direction?

thanks

I don't completely understand the question. If it's a RISC chip
that's supported by Linux, there is a binary of the kernel somewhere.
If you can't find it, you can always install a cross-compiler and
compile a kernel for the desired architecture.

If it isn't supported by Linux, then that's pretty much that.

I'm pretty sure it is supported by linux. I haven't been able to find the
binary of the kernal anywhere (do you have any ideas). I've had a look into
cross compiling, but can't do it on my machine. If I try, the -m29000 switch
is ignored (for compability?!?). Do I just read the kernel howto (in partic.
the cross compiling section or is that in gcc?).

Thanks for the help.

Well, I'm starting to wonder if Corel Linux was the best choice to make - it
seems that alot of directories are named differently than other distros, as
well as a lot of files not being where they are in other distros.

The first grep came up with the following:
c0116950 printk_Rsmp_dd132261

and the second came up with:
nm: /lib/modules/2.2.12.misc/snd.o: No such file or directory

Just as an update:

I gave up on the Yamaha audio and purchased a Soundblaster AWE32 ISA PnP.
I followed a HOW-TO i found on the 'net, but I couldn't get it to work,
again coming up with unresolved errors. As a last resort, I yanked my MX300
card from my Windows box and installed it using the latest drivers available
from linux.aureal.com - and again I got Unresolved symbol errors. After
snooping around the above site, I noticed it mentioned that if people get
those errors, they recommend recompiling the kernel with audio 'right in the
kernel' instead of as a module ( I say it like that, because I can't
remember the exact wording).

Anyways, I feel that I'm much to much of a newbie to yet attempt recompiling
the kernel, and want to do some more research into what this all entails, as
well as Linux in general (and especially some of the Console commands).
Hopefully I won't be posting back here with any troubles ;)

Thanks alot for helping me out.

Compiling 'right in' is more like pre-born piggy embryots which are
always ready to eat over a ready made umbilical cord in a microsecond's
notice and with no effort on your part. Over time however Momma got
really fat-hag bloated like, er, a pig and so both modules and the term
'kernel bloat' were created.

Modules latch in to Mother Kernel like sweet nursing piglets only you
get to decide which ones suck (depmod et al). Something of a hold over
from the lean memory days [desktop/server perspective] in most cases,
but the picking and choosing is a task for later.

For now, start with /usr/src/linux/README or wherever Corel puts their
sources. There's also a kernel compile howto. If you can't find any of
this on your system because no one told you to load up all the docs at
install time then this may be handy: http://www.linuxdoc.org/

There is an architecture specific layer (eg assembly) underneath. That
gcc has a switch does't mean linux has the appropriate architecture
layer. Try a search on 'linux am29000 port' or something like that.
Answer is most likely no.

While its smaller, the SGI flat panel does the same resolution (1600 x 1024).
When I was going for an LCD screen, I seriously looked at it, but at the time,
it only had one video card that was supported, so I went with the ViewSonic
VP181 (1280 x 1024). You might need one of the commercial X servers for the
Revolution video card. The SGI flat panel URL is:
