I have exactly the same problem.

Redhat 6.2 with kernel-2.2.16-3, X4.0.1, TNT2, Celeron on Abit M/B.

I have recompliled the kernel, installed it with no problems.
I try and compile the nvidia driver and get unresolved AGP crap.
I am getting sick of Nvidia's crappy drivers, this sort of thing
happens everytime I try and upgrade anything to do with NVidia's
drivers. Th only kernel source on the box is 2.2.16-3, symlinks
for /usr/include/linux look fine. Anyone got any idea's ? Please..

Hi,
I was wondering if any of the PCMCIA via SCSI desktop drives work with
Linux. I am describing either an internal or external case with usually 2
PCMCIA card slots in it. Instead of using a homemade ISA adapter to run
them they hook to the SCSI bus and operate on SCSI ID's The maker of one I
am looking at claims win95, NT, HP-UX, Irix 5.3, sun Solaris and SCO work
with their device but the Linux PCMCIA HOWTO only says "unlike SCSI to
PCMCIA slots" It does not say if they are supported or even will be
supported. I have no more IRQ's left and would like to use this PCMCIA
adapter with Linux on the SCSI bus but I can't tell if they are supported I
am assuming no but any info you could give would helpful.

Thanks, Joshua

Unless you want to try out the newest 2.4.0-test5 kernel, that is. I found
UDMA support to work just fine with this kernel. hdparm -t results
increased from 14 to 17MB/s on my system. This on a Hot Rod 66 controller.
While the gain from using UDMA66 is not too big, most people will see a
small performance increase, I believe. Whether or not it is worth it, only
you can decide. You will have to spend some time compiling and testing, but
isn't that what's fun about Linux :)

Well my Suse-6.3 seems to support Canon bcj [68]00... I don't have the
hardware so I cannot test this, but you might try and put the
following into your /etc/printcap (don't forget to restart lpd
afterwards and make an appropriate spool directory):

Hi all

Not really a Linux specific hardware question, but I can't
seem to find an answer in other places ...

My computer has an ASUS P2B-L mainboard (Intel BX chipset)
with an AGP slot, currently taken by a Matrox Millenium
G200. I'm shopping for a new graphics card (mainly for
playing flight simulators under W98, for which I need very
good hardware 3D capabilities) and I need to know whether
my AGP slot is AGP1 or AGP2.

TIA

That was hooked up, along with everything else. So I didn't think it could be
a hardware problem. BUT, I played around with the dm utility from the oss
emu10k1driver:

dm analog rear out1 unmute
dm analog rear out1 100

and now everything works and sounds great!

The only problem I came across with parallel port zip drive is a parallel
port set-up. In my experience there are no problems in SPP mode. You might
face problems with either ECP or EPP mode (can't recall details, but I
suggest to stick to SPP in the first instance). I found that PP ZIP works
very well under linux (as opposed to M$ Win95). The model I use is about 3
years old. You need to compile kernel with ppa included as a module.

Subject: Please help ! Really no ideas of what's happening!
Date: Thu, 03 Aug 2000 11:18:34 GMT

Hi,

As i really don't solve that probeme and noone has help until now, i'm
trying again....

The system don't boot !

I want to install linux RedHat 6.0 on a 486 DX2 66 Mhz with only ISA
slots and 16 M0 of memory.
I had an old 450 Mo harddisk in it and added a 1 Gb disk too.
I reached to install Win95 on it as a test for the configuration.
It seems to work properly.

When i'm trying to install the RedHat 6.0, I can boot with the install
disk, do the partitionning and format each partition (No pb with the LBA
mode for example).

Than i can install everything and make a boot disk too, following the
normal process.

The problem is that when i reboot, the system starts and uncompress the
kernel correctly.
Firts boot messages seem correct (except "keyboard not fournd" but it
is'nt a PS/2 type keyboard so i suppose it's normal as it works anyway).

Then is have something like theses:

Ram disk driver initialized : 16 RAM disks of 4096 Kb
hda: QUANTUM FIREBALL1080 .... drive
hdb: ST34... XR drive

then the system hangs ....

This is really strange. With the boot disk it's the same problem. I just
can boot with the install disk.
On an other hand i tried to remove the second disk but it hangs anyway
(when detecting the first one).
I also tried the LILO noprobe option and neally all HD option possible
but it hangs anyway.

Could it be a memory problem ?

Do i have to reinstall linux each time i'm trying to remove one of the
harware boards to tests if it's a problem with it, or is'nt it necessary
to be sure that the kernel is no more looking for it?

Is the line "RAM Disk Drive initialized: 16 RAM disks of 4096 " normal
as this PC only have 16 Mo of RAM (45 Mo of SWAP)?

Thanks a lot for anything that could help !!

Christophe

That's a very good question.
However, before we go any further let me tell you, I am no expert on Linux,
but the place where I would go is SuperProbe. SuperProbe is a nice, and
small, application that comes with Slackware and what it does is simple, it
gives you the specs of your video card; all you have to do is type
SuperProbe at the command line. I am sure other distros will provide, if not
the same, something similar.

Good luck!!

Chis, one of the things I have learn about Linux is that every distro does
things their own way. RedHat is mostly in the cutting edge of technoly,
which is very good. However, it has problems dealing with machines that not
stand up to it's standards. I, myself, when dealing with older machines,
prefere Slackware. Slackware is, however, a bit raw, the installating
interface is not so MS-Windows like and most of the settings are done by
hand. There is a reward you will get out of Slackware, it not only makes you
forget about MS-Windows, but it also makes learn how to set and program a
computer the way real programmers do it.

Good luck
