I just purchased a new Maxtor 40GB hd and a CMD648 PCI ATA66 controller
for my PC. I have managed to get the drive installed, but the
performance is terrible. I have used hdparm to set -c1 -d1 for the drive
and it is now using CPU, but the throughput does not change at all.

I would definitely appreciate any help!

Here's the info on the card from /proc/pci

IDE interface: CMD Unknown device (rev 1).
Vendor id=1095. Device id=648. Medium devsel. Fast back-to-back

      [0x8001]. I/O at 0x8400 [0x8401]. I/O at 0x8800 [0x8801].

Here's the output from hdparm
/dev/hde:
 multcount    =  0 (off) I/O support  =  1 (32-bit) unmaskirq    =  0
 (off) using_dma = 1 (on) keepsettings = 1 (on) nowerr = 0

If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know.

Thanks! Warren

I have the same issue with the Barricade RE the admin. web server locking
up. I have found that powering down for ~30 sec. will restore the router
for a time. Even with the admin web server not working the router seems
to continue to work.

RE Two DHCP. Not 100% sure here but I would suggest (as you have done)
setting a static IP for your UNIX box. There is no real need for a dynm.
IP unless you are going to be moving the box from network to network e.g.
a lap top. Also, a static IP allows for running a DNS on your UNIX box.

You should probably post this on the mgetty mailing list. The mgetty developers
are German, and they will recommend you a German modem (most likely not widely
available). US Robotics is not considered a good brand (I am using one and there
are some problems with voice, rather annoying). You'd have to spend $$$ for
something that's reliable.

Slightly off the subject of the thread but, I'm using the ltmodem.o module on
a 2.2.16 kernel and it seems to work fine, with the exception of the ability to
change the country code. I've used nm on the module and found the country code
symbol (called CountryID) but can't get enough info to tell why I can't change
it. When I try to change the appropriate S registers, I just get errors as if
these register didn't exist.
Has anyone had any luck with this?

Thanks for any help.

Have you tried http://www.irda.org?

If this site is unhelpful, you might like to download the datasheet

Wrong. In Redhat 6.2 I get the same thing, except with a 64MB and a 32MB
RAM, and the BIOS definatly see's 96MB. But when my machine boots up to
linux, if I don't have mem=96MB as an extra kernel option, linux only sees
the first 64MB.

VXA tape, used by the Ecrix drive, is none too cheap at $2.5/GB.
Beyond that, the product and the company are top quality and
Linux-friendly. I administer 250 GB of disk space on a network, using
a pair of these drives. Linux sees the VXA-1 as a vanilla SCSI tape
device. Solid technology.

I believe that EIDEMax is a BIOS extender to use large hard disks. If
that's correct, I doubt that you need a driver to use it under Linux. In
fact, I think that it won't make any difference, since Linux doesn't use
the BIOS to do disk access; in other words, you can use your large disk
under Linux even without EIDEMax.

You need to run (as root):

/sbin/lspci -v

This will give you "IRQ" and "I/O Ports at". Use these values to setup the
serial driver with the "setserial" command.

setserial /dev/ttyS2 irt ?? port 0x???? autoconfig

Hi all,
did s.o. get the Elsa card running under Linux?
Using SUSE 7.0 and X 4.0.1.

With newest NVIDIA drivers I could configure it
using SaX with 640x480x16.

When I try to switch resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768
I have to reboot after a black screen. The machine doesn't

Is there any manual configuration to be made which could help me?

More info: it's an older systemboard which BIOS supports only up to 8 GB.
So if I want to use my 20.5 GB harddisk, I'll need the EIDEMAX BIOS
extender or something with the same function. Since the manufacturer
provides drivers for use with various OS-es but doesn't support Linux at
all, I still have the question....
