Here's a thought. I was getting the same lost interrupt errors on hdc
that I use for Linux a couple of times during the week and last Sunday got
so bad that it locked while attempting shutdown. This is the last of the
log at the point is stalled:

Sep 3 09:12:46 efflandt kernel: hdc: lost interrupt
Sep  3 09:12:46 efflandt kernel: hdc: read_intr: status=0x50 { DriveReady
SeekComplete }
Sep 3 09:12:56 efflandt kernel: hdc: lost interrupt
Sep  3 09:12:56 efflandt kernel: hdc: read_intr: status=0x50 { DriveReady
SeekComplete }
Sep 3 09:13:07 efflandt kernel: hdc: lost interrupt
Sep 3 09:13:38 efflandt last message repeated 3 times
Sep  3 09:13:38 efflandt kernel: hdc: read_intr: status=0x00 { }

In the process of swapping out my hdb from a Win95 drive to one with an
older Linux version, I noticed that the area between my plastic case and
the grill in front of my inlet fan was totally packed with lint. I
removed the front of the case and all of the lint, vacuumed out the rest
of the case and put it back together.

I e2fsck'd hdc from another drive, checked for badblocks (none), backed up
some essential files to another drive, and rebooted to hdc with nothing
lost and no problems since then.

This is an old P100 box running an Evergreen Spectra400 (K6-2/400) 24/7
crunching SETI work units at 100% cpu load. Apparently the total lack of
inlet air (heat) was causing the lost interrupts, and I have not seen a
lost interrupt since I cleared that up.

I have used 128MB x 2 (total 256MB) in the RH6.1 (Kernel 2.2.12-20)
however I found only 128MB show on 'dmesg'.

I have already changed the file 'lilo.conf'.
the context is as follows:
boot=/dev/sda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
default=linux

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.12-20
        label=linux
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.2.12-20.img
        read-only
        root=/dev/sda12
        append="mem=256M"

I have also reboot the machine.

Moreover, I can find 256MB ram after reboot.

what should I do ?

Thanks alot for the info, but I finally figured out what happened. You
see I have to lpd ports, one has a printer atteched to it and the other
has a scanner. Well linux was thinking that both ports had printers
attached to it so that "printer dev = /dev/lp1/dev/lp0.". What I ended up
doing was removing on of the lp entries so that now it looks like this
"printer dev = /dev/lp0" Just thought I'd post this in case someone was
having the same problem as me.

WOW, you are a crossposting maniac.

Did you run lilo and then reboot?
Try moving the append line up a couple lines in the configuration.

did you rerun /sbin/lilo after modifying lilo.conf?

Simply changing lilo.conf is not enought.

If that doesn't work, at the LILO: prompt, type linux mem=256M and see
if that helps.

It also couldn't hurt to update to a more current kernel. 2.2.17 is
out.

Subject: which filter to use for GDI printer (through Samba)?
Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 17:18:31 -0400

greetings,

I would like to share a GDI printer (win-printer, if you will) that is
connected on a win98 machine via linux-SAMBA. The problem is, under
printtool, I don't know which filter I should use for it.

The printer in question is Samsung SF5800p. I know it doesn't work under
linux (since it is nor postscript-capable nor supports PCL), but I found
the following in the PRINTING-HOWTO:

=======================================
11.1 The Ghostscript Windows redirector

There is now a Windows printer driver available (called mswinpr2) that
will run a print job through Ghostscript before finally printing it.
(Rather like an if filter in Unix's LPD). There is also a new Ghostscript
driver which will print using Windows GDI calls. Taken all together, this
allows a Windows machine to print PostScript to a Windows-only printer
through the vendor's driver.

If you get that working, you can then follow the instructions above for
printing to a Windows printer over the network from Linux to let Unix (and
other Windows, Mac, etc) hosts print to your lemon printer.

=============================

the problem is, it gives no detail on actually how to set this up on the
linux's side.

Has anyone done this? Any help is very much appreciated!

ps. I'm using Mandrake 7.0

Elvis

I am having the same problem with a thunderbird 750 on an asus A7V running
rh 6.2. I have tried to guess at boottime arguements, have tried to boot
the rescue floppy. Nothing works. The problem can be avoided by
recompiling your kernel, but I can't boot to a linux environment to even
attempt that! If anyone knows a solution for this problem, please post
ASAP!

Hey, quick question. Since you have an A7V, I am sure you are running a
tbird/duron. What distro are you running? Using rh 6.2 (2.2.14), the
kernel thinks my tbird is a PIII and tries to disable the serial number,
which makes it hang. Did you run into this problem, and if so do you have a
solution? If you did not run into this problem, tell me what distro you are
running so I can try that out and test for the same problem.

Vacumme (set for Blow) to get the crud out. and then follow by a full
