If you have redhat, 'man mkbootdisk'.

Subject: Memory

Hello,
I own an old PPRO200 and I have a memory (probably) problem.
I "upgrade" the RAM of my computer to 64M (SIMM EDO) and some windows
disappears without reasons (apparently). For example, with netscape, I
get a "bus error" and StarOffice often closes. Bios upgrade seems to be
unefficient, even if I notice little improvements in the stability.
But this problem disappears when I use only 16M (SIMM EDO). Of course,
it's less fast but it works....
How can I be sure that this problem comes from my memories? If it
doesn't come from here, where does it can come from?
Thanks in advance,
ASF

Thanks for your precious help but unfortunatly it looks like I still have a
small problem.
I recompile 'gs' with the 'stp driver' and everything is allright. 'gs
-help' shows me that the driver is there but when I try to print something
nothing happens. I tried to print from 'gimp' (my printer appeared in the
different choices). I launched " a print" and nothing happens. But, when I
look at the queue printer status, the fist time, there is no message, the
second time, I can see a warning message, and finally, the third time there
is no message (except no entries), I mean the job appears in the queue and
desappears right after. This is what happens :
localhost:~ $ lpq -Pleffe
no entries
localhost:~ $ lpq -Pleffe
Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
1st guillaum 16 (standard input) 4704212
bytes
localhost:~ $ lpq -Pleffe
no entries
I don't understand the message "Warning: no daemon present", because if I
type 'ps -aux | grep lpd' I can see the daemon. Is there anything special in
the daemon's configuration???
Thanks again,
Guillaume.

Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2000 19:04:51 GMT
Hi,
I installed an Adaptec 2940U2W card in a Red Hat 6.1 system and
attached a Quantum DLT drive to it. On bootup, SCSI card BIOS detected
the drive fine but none of the backup commands worked. I always get
erorrs saying no such device at /dev/st0. /var/log/dmesg has nothing to
say about the Adaptec card. Does this mean that the system can't see
the card as well as the attached drive?
The card does not come with drivers for Linux but I was told that 'RH
6.1 knows about the card'.
Do I have to install any driver for the tape drive to work properly.

Copy /etc/lilo.conf to /etc/lilo.conf.floppy. In lilo.conf.floppy, change boot to
boot=/dev/fd0. Run: /sbin/lilo -C /etc/lilo.conf.floppy with floppy in drive.

RTFM.
/usr/doc/ext2ed-0.1/user-guide-0.1.ps, if your distribution is RedHat
6.2.
Chapter 11 describes commands that involve the superblock.
gocopy will let your view a particular copy of the superblock (0 is the
active one)
setactivecopy will copy a backup superblock over the active one. It
will be committed to disk after you issue the writedata command.
It is possible that your backup superblocks are also corrupt. If you
don't have any good ones, then you're out of luck - reformat and restore
from a backup. This is why I tell everybody to make periodic backups -
there is always the possibility of an unrecoverable disk error.

This means that the card's device drivers have not loaded.

Yes. Add this line to /etc/conf.modules:
alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
and reboot.
Be sure to regenerate your boot floppy (via mkbootdisk) afterwards, so
it will be able to access any SCSI devices.
If you plan on booting from a SCSI hard drive, be sure to also generate
an initrd file (via mkinitrd) after doing this, so that your ramdisk
will have the SCSI driver in it - then update LILO before rebooting.
(If you don't require any files on any SCSI drives at boot time, then
this last step is optional.)

Yes, but you put me on the right track, thanks. Modifying my mount
options fixed it - kind of. Adding the following umask in fstab made
ALMOST everything OK.
/dev/sda4 /mnt/zipdos vfat user,exec,dev,suid,rw,noauto,umask=0000 0 0
Now you can copy files to the ZipDrive from an NT machine, but
weirdly enough, when you try to create a dir on the Zip from NT,
NT says "I'm sorry, Dave. I can't do that." (or an equivalent error
message) - And apparently fails - but when you refresh the File
Manager, the dir that couldn't be created is right there. So,
everything's working, kind of, but for that bogus error message
from NT - Anyone know where this comes from and if it
can be eliminated?
Thanks again, Paul.

Update: from a W95 machine, New Folder errors immediately,
saying "New Folder - Object creation error - can't create object
that already exists" - sure enough, when you refresh the view
after this message, "New Folder" DOES get created. That message
makes me think Windows has something out of sequence, because
it creates the directory then says it can't create what's already there.
What's up with that?

I have an Epson Stylus Color 760 that I've been trying to get to
work in RedHat6.2 with PDQ-2.2.1.
According to www.linuxprinting.org the stp-driver is the best
choice for this printer. So I used PDQ-o-matic to generate a driver
specification file and put it in /etc/pdq/drivers/ghostscript. Then
I started xpdq and created a printer using this driver, configured
it and tried printing.
"Unknown device: stp" was all that was printed.
What could be wrong?
/etc/pdq/printrc looks like this (left out some comment lines):
