I need to reszie a partition on a disk WITHOUT killing the data. I've
tried partition magic, but it gives me an Error 110. I read that it
means the LBA and CHS data on the disk is not aligned, but Win2K says
everything is cool. Does anyone know about this error, or of another
piece of software (preferably free :) that will resize an NTFS
partition?

Thanks!

Can you tell what chipset the card is based on? If there isn't a heat
sink over the main chip on the card, can you post any markings that are
printed on it?

Linux includes a generic Adaptec driver for every non-RAID Adaptec card
that uses the AIC 7xxx chipset (which includes all of the 2940-series
cards.)

If the 19160 is based on an AIC-7xxx series chipset (which I have not
been able to determine from Adaptec's website), then I would expect the
generic driver to work. If not, then I would expect you to require a
new driver.

Trying to get an Agfa Snapscan 1212U scanner to function - Mandrake
2.2.17 sees the
scanner in hardrake as attached to a USB port. Tried running the
agfafirm script
on the page that SANE linked to for USB scanner support for Agfa
scanners - doesn't run at all, xsane,, etc don't produce anything other
than a core dump - not quite what I'm looking for.
Any other options for scanners in Linux other than SANE? or have I
missed something.

Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody had the specs for Philips 14C
model... I suspect it's a generic SVGA (1024x768@75 interlaced) model,
but it's always nice to know for sure.

So, if anybody happens to have some kind of manual handy, please, if
you will, do take a look at it. :-)

Thanks in advance,

I don't know the specs of such older monitors offhand, but you should be
able to find something at http://www.pcstuff.philips.com under Support.
Otherwise just send a message to our email helpdesk. A collegue of mine
(I don't do monitor mail) will get back to you with the specs.

Tagged command queueing speeds things up but isnt vital. Check kernel
help and scsi documentation.

Works on the 29160 which is based on the same series of controller.

Greetings,

I've tried to get a second Linksys Etherfast 10/100(Network in a Box)
pci card into my Gateway(tm) PIII 500 megahertz computer. I'm running
Redhat 6.1, and it is loading the tulip driver on kernel 2.2.16.
Everytime I've tried to put in the second card, the kernel goes into
panic. It runs the one just fine. I am now running DSL off of the one
that is installed, so I wanted the other one to maintain my private
network.

If anyone has a fix for this, please feel free to email me. I'll also
offer more information if needed. Thank you.

I looked at pcstuff/support prior to posting here, and I obviously

Compile the kernel with support for agpgart and if your stock LM kernel does
not work then download 2.4 test. Load agpgart module and then user XFCOM x
server from intel website.

Check the previous messages here on this topic as a few people answered me

Alternately try Suse 7.0. If you are in UK Linuxformat had it on the covercd

If you down load the current serial driver from source forge, it really
isn't necessary to buy an external modem.

I have a 3Com/USR PCI modem model 3CP2976 and it works fine without
doing anything to set it up.

I do understand that there are, or were, some problems with the voice
support. I haven't tried this yet.

It is also available without voice as model 3CP2977.

Hi all, I've got a logitech PS/2 Trackman Marble + and have not been able to find
a howto on getting the scroll wheel to work with it under X. Other than a not
being able to scroll the mouse works just fine and dandy.
Was wondering if the above solution will work for me, or if I need to do
somethign a little different since I've got a Logitech and this is referencing an
MS Intellimouse.

Running Slackware 7.0 and KDE desktop if that helps. The version of X and KDE I'm
running is the default Slack 7.0 version.

No. This message of the "bind" system call means that another
process on the *same* machine has already grabbed the port in order
to listen to incoming requests. The TCP port appears to be auth,
i.e., 113 (see /etc/services). So the inetd process cannot bind to
it. Look for another process providing auth services. (Maybe it is
spawned by the inet daemon, too?)

Hope that helps,
Jan

Where did you get the idea to ask this in a linux NG?
Go ask in a MS-NT dedicated group.
The advise I can give you is either to backup and reinstall, or buy a
new HDD instead of resizing.

Your BIOS probably cannot boot from the 2nd IDE controller
connect the 2nd HDD as hdb instead of hdc, or (this is less work) copy
the kernel image from your 5.1 disc to the first HDD and boot from
there. That means both kernel images use /boot on hda, the other
partitions are not shared.

Well, you'll have to wait for an official player before you can use it
as a dvd-player station (unless you want to buy a 80 GB harddrive and
DeCSS every DVD before playing). Also coolerless would be a problem for
this because there is no hardware-accelerated player yet.

But for MP3's... go for the new cyrix processors, they are VERY cool and
only need heatsinks up to 233 Mhz. A slower harddrive that doesn't get
too hot should do the trick for storage... well, that's it.
