The tape drive is an HP SureStore 24x6e, the system recgonizes the drive BUT
to run a software package that I have purchased I am required to have the
drive in random access mode, I called HP and they told me to modify the
autoloader switch from 7 (default) to 6, I accomplished and it is still in
seq mode. AHHHHHHH!!!!! Please help. I have tried everything....well I
have yet to sacrifice a white virgin goat on the stroke of midnight, but
that is next if I can't get this to work.

Hi All
I have install redhat 6.2 with the kernel 2.2.17-4. Now I need to transfer
the entire os to another disk arry with the same system. The reason being
for that is I had problem with mylex 352 raid card. I have installed &
compiled 2.2.17-4 in order to get the drivers by connecting an external HD.
Now I need to transfer the OS inorder to boot from DISK ARRY.
How yo transfer, Can I use dd command dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/rd/c0d0p1 ?,
Or with any other option?. The root partition of both drives are different
size. Or can I use dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/rd/c0d0p1 conv=notrunc.
Please advice

Thanks in Advance

YES, IT IS TRUE!
External modems are self sufficient (hardware wise) to perform the
mod/demod duties and need only relevant commands and info from serial
port.
Serial port commands are standard for all OS's.

I prefer cp -ax / /destination/drive If you have other partitions do the
same for them; if all is one partition - that's all you need.

Subject: Errors when using cdrecord
Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 21:18:39 -0700

Hello there,

I'm trying to burn CD-Rs on my Linux system (Redhat 7.1 with ide-scsi
emulation enabled through a kernel recompilation). The command `cdrecord
-scanbus` lists the CD writer.

The CD writer is a LG 8080-B CD-RW unit and it's working properly in
Windoze; I'm using good quality blank CDs.

I ripped one audio CD I own and I tried to write the .wav files to the
CD-R by using the command `cdrecord -v -speed=2 dev=0,1,0 -audio -dummy
track*.wav`. However, I'm gettng the message at the bottom of this post
(sorry for its length).

I'm a total newbie when it comes to write CDs and I'm not sure if I'm
not doing something wrong. Please help.

Thank you.

Serban

That is NOT an error, it's a warning. I had an ATi Mach64 card that
gave the exact same message in the log file every time X was started up
or shut down. The card worked.

If you are having problems getting X to work, then we need more
information. The real problem almost certainly lies above the "errno =
111" line if that line exists, and one RedHat-specific problem that many
people have with X is that the font server isn't started. Again, we
need more information.

There are many mixer settings; try increasing all of them. For example,
there is the "master" volume, the PCM volume (for WAV files, etc) and
the CD volume. If it's still too quiet then turn up the volume on your
speakers ;-)

3com/USR 2977 works OK with RH7. If you have Kernel 2.4.3 the Serial
Driver will auto detect it.

It appears that there is a driver for the HSF, but not for the HCF.

Hello Jali
I´ve got problems to install my Pcimodem(Conexant56K irq 5 io ec00) auf Suse7
the card is noticed in /proc/pci but it is not configurable with yast1+2 nor
kppp or wvdial.I got a driver working under Mandrake7.2 when I start the
script to load the drivermodules there is a segmentation Fault nevertheless
all modules are loaded(lsmod) and a new /dev/cnxt0 is created and /dev/modem
is a Link to it.After this I can`t communicate to the new device
Any Idea?

Heh, I don't know how you do that. I write about 4 600MB CD's a month in
order to get the stuff off my dard drives. I've got about 40G on this
system alone and am considering changing out one of the drives for a

And how long does it take you to build the tree?

Precisely. With the most perfect algorithm in the world, a larger cache
will take longer to access than a smaller one.

So how big is "out of proportion"?

What difference does the number of bytes make? It's the number of
directory entries that matters.

And this takes how long?

How much RAM do you need to do this?
