partition magic does resize linux partitions.
I do not know what error 110 is.

Are you using the latest tulip driver from
http://www.scyld.com/network/tulip.html
I am currently running two Linksys boards; one version 2.0 and one
version 4.0, and they work fine with the netdriver-2.0. Well almost; I
find that running X over ssh, I can sometimes lock up one of the cards,
but the computer and the other card (the older one) continue to work
fine.

LILO is only able to boot from disks that your BIOS is able to boot
from. Your BIOS is only able to boot from disks on your first IDE
controller.

Put you new Fujitsu disk as primary slave instead (hdb) then LILO will
be able to boot from it. Some disks also has to be rejumpered when going
from single disk to master.

The limit is 1024 cylinders. There is some other bootloader... Maybe the
name was numi or something like that. Try a search at freshmeat. That
one doesn't have the BIOS limitations that LILO has.

With LBA you might be able to decrease the number of cylinders.

Common problem when upgrading to RH6.1 or RH6.2. The identd is not
started from /etc/rc.d, and if it is also enabled in /etc/inetd.conf
you get the bind conflict. Disable it one of the places, probaly
by commenting out identd in /etc/inetd.conf.

In response to an enquiry as to whether my Lasat 560V int Modem would work
in conjunction with Linux Mandrake 7.1, Lasat replied with the following:
What to do to make your Lasat 560V Int work on Linux:
Step One: Build a kernel with a serial support module.
Step Two: Configure the card with /etc/isapnp.conf (use pnpdump to view
where the card is placed and available)
Step Three: In /etc/rc.d/rc.serial, modify so that the file holds the
following: /bin/setserial/dev/cua2 spd_vhi irq 15.
As complete newbie to Linux, this is all so much double dutch to me. Has
anyone got the time and the patience to convert this into a "guide for
dummies" context so that I can get my modem connected.
In grateful anticipation

Hi,
I recently acquired a great laptop: the Toshiba Satellite2755DVD
Now, I will try to venture into installing Linux in this machine and, as
you must know, getting Linux to work on some laptops is sometimes quite
a hard task. Because of that, I am looking for someone who has this laptop
and successfully installed and configured Linux on it (or at least is
trying to). Does Linux recognize the modem? if not, what alternatives do i
have? Is the video card supported by XFree86?
Thank you very much,

Hi!
I'm having trouble installing my AVM Fritz PCI ISDN card. I'm using RH 6.2.
The same card worked fine under Suse 6.4 when installed automatically. I
couldn't find an automatic installation routine under RH, so I tried the
command:
modprobe hisax type=5 protocol=2 io=0xB800 irq=5
The irq and io are the same ones win98 uses on the same machine. This is the
output in /var/log/messages after trying to install the card:

When trying any other ioport than 0xB800 hisax doesn't find the card at all.
I tried changing the ioport for the card under windows hoping that linux
would go by the new ioport as well, but linux insists on ioport 0xB800.
The entry in the BIOS under "PnP and PCI Setup" was: PnP OS installed : No
What can I do to get the isdn card installed ?
Thanks in advance!

Subject: annoying scsi resets in linux
Date: 25 Sep 2000 18:34:03 GMT
Hello people,
here's a lenghty one, hope you have time to read it.
A few months ago I asked in c.o.l.h for help with AHA-2940U2W and
IBM AS400 0664N1H (wide, SCSI-2) and received many instructive answers
(thanks for them).
I kinda retired to make some further tests by replacing parts etc and it took
more time than I had thought at the first place.
Anyway, the reason to the data corruption that was my main problem was
either mboard, memory or processor, but it went away after I lowered bus
speed to 66 MHz and replaced earlier SIMMs with a new DIMM. It had nothing to
do with scsi devices, it just started to occur at the time I got the adapter
and the drive.
The problem that remains is scsi bus abort/reset loops.
It always begins with a regular read/write operation timing out and causing
abort and reset. Everything works fine until then, but after things get bad
I have really no other option than to try to shut down programs and do
a emergency reboot. The scsi drive is not (luckily) my system drive so
it won't freeze everything right away.
The system is based on Red Hat Linux 6.0 with kernel 2.2.16 (patched with
latest aic7xxx driver). The IBM drive has ID#2, the host adapter is ID#7 and
no other scsi peripherals exist on the system.
Here's a nice piece of log, aic7xxx module was started with verbose:0xff49

After that it goes around again...
Though the Linux aic7xxx driver can't get this thing resetted, the Adaptec
scsi bios makes it work right again at reboot (no matter did I make a hard
reset or not).
I'm quite lost with this one, at this point I'm pretty sure it's not
the cable or the termination (I couldn't even get a cable shorter than this
~1 meter long I already have, and I have tried with another cable), I tried
with drive supplying or not supplying TERMPWR.
The adapter and the drive were tested in another machine running NT4, no
problems were seen.
I have checked also the drive's specs for obscure requirements for time outs,
cables, termination and temperatures, all in vain. I also have an extra
power supply powering the drive ('just in case').
The easiest option would be to get another drive, get it working and throw
away this one (according to IBM it 'starts to degrade' after 5 years
of service and it's manufactured around -94), but... a drive with 1.9 GB space
is always tempting to keep around :)
Please, if you think there's yet something to try, I'll try it.

consult the Serial-HOWTO, Text-Terminal-HOWTO, install a getty
for your serial line (more than likely you'll find ttyS0 and/or
ttyS1 in your dmesg status, compare with the hardware you know you
have) and have it use the appropriate line speed and terminal type
(my /etc/termcap knows about a ibm3151, for example). enjoy, as far as
those old-style ibm-terminals can provide joy (but from all I've
heard the keyboard can easily double as a handy weapon).
