This might require some compiling. If you're using a redhat distribution the
DFE 650 support wasn't that great. Also, you should note that per the PCMCIA
docs it's perfectly normal to see the "eth0 initialization failed" message
during bootup, because PCMCIA loads after it tries to bring up the
interface. It's _supposed_ to automatically work once PCMCIA comes up but it
never has for me. Redhat's "ifup eth0" will bring up your interface after
the PCMCIA device is successfully loaded.
You need to download pcmcia-cs-3.1.20 and since you probably can't find an
RPM of it you'll need to compile it; so before you do that you'll need to
download the kernel and source headers from redhat for the kernel you're
running.
Sorry it's so complex but that's how it is! After all that though I got it
to work like a charm!
If you get stuck mail me directly and I can point you to the next step or
possible solution, but I don't have time to walk through all the steps.

Is that a SCSI CD? Could be a case of wrongful termination. The
SCSI bus expects termination on the two PHYSICAL endings of the
bus, nothing more or less. A usual setup is that there is
termination on the SCSI controller itself, and at the other end
in the CD player. Failure to terminate the physical ends of the
SCSI bus may result in really unpredictable behaviour, like that
it works fine in Windows, but not in Linux, or that it works
fine for a year on all OS platforms, but then suddenly stops
cooperation, or that it works well Mondays, but not Tuesdays...

I'm not sure if that is really the reason because I looked in my BIOS -
settings and it said that I have 128MB ram.
But I think I'll try to get the newest LILO anyway.

One possibility: the driver will not work if both cards are on the same
IRQ. I had to play musical slots with the boards to get them on different
IRQs, and it was all downhill from there.

Subject: Digital flat-panel LCD
Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 20:16:05 -0400
hi all,
I recently bought a digital flat panel monitor and need some suggestions
on adding it to my linux box (RH6.2, kernel 2.2.14)
The DFP LCD monitor uses a 20-pin MDS(DFP) to connect to PC's video card,
but my old video card only has analog VGA output. So here is a list of my
desired configuration (ranked in preferrence)
1. get a VGA(DB-15)-to-DFP(MDS-20) adaptor (which is probably not vailable
since there is A/D conversion involved)
2. get a new video card that has both a DFP and a VGA connector, and that
supports dual-head so that my old CRT can be used
3. get a new video card that has only a DFP output
My research found two major mfrs of such DFP-supporting video cards:
ATI's Xpert LCD (8MB) and
Matrox's Millennium series (G200 and G450) (support dual-head)
I need some information as to if and how well these cards are supported by
Linux. Has anyone out there had similar experience working with digital
flat panel LCD monitors?
It would also be helpful if someone has installed Linux on a Compaq
Presario desktop that uses FP700 LCD monitor - could you tell me what
video card was used?
Thanks,
minya

I just bought the Ricoh MP9060A, the other combo drive, and it works
great under Linux. It's about the same price as the Toshiba, but writes
CDR at 6X as opposed to the Toshiba's 4x. I'm running Mandrake 7.1

Hi All,
Big problem:
I can't figure out how to set up my joystick with Suse 7.0.
I am using the following components:
-Suse7
-SBLive 1024 (emu10k1)
-Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D
Insmodding the joystick driver results in this message:
modprobe joy-logitech

Yes, I read the Readme which says:

the message "joy-something: no joysticks found" and "joy-something.o:=20

A: The most common cause is that the joystick port on your soundcard i=

not enabled...
My question now is:
How would I enable the joystick port on my soundcard???
It must be some option in /etc/modules.conf, but which one?
I appreciate any help,

Hi,
the geforce256 should work with the newest nvidia drivers.
Go to www.nvidia.com. They have the drivers, FAQs and
installation instructions.
I think You need two drivers to install: a base driver
and then the GLX driver.

Yes, enabling DMA on the K7M board caused problems!
It caused random timeout warning messages (benign), but often caused lockups.
Beware!
As I said earlier, use a Promise Ultra66 card. Remember to use an Ultra66
cable (even if your drives are only UDMA33) and apply Hedrick's patches.
I really is worth getting this working. DMA really rocks. Good luck!

Use the cut off edge of the newspaper, and wet it with alcohol, as in

I have used it, but I wasn't well impressed with anything but its dirt

5000 or so chips have black legs, you try anything. We finally sent it

It will tend to protect the contacts *once* they are clean. Wipe it on,
after cleaning with a dampened with alcohol piece of clean newsprint,
the edge of the Sunday fishwrap should be sufficient stock for that.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that I have seen some pretty
poor excuses for simm sockets. They would be a bear to replace, but if
the latches and such are about gone, and the contacts look like they're
tin, maybe its time. Thats not a job for the faint of heart, or the
newbie with his first soldering iron.
