You might try manually setting the cylinders, sectors, etc... in fdisk advanced
mode and then make your partition... hope this helps...

Matt G,
well, i followed the howto to add the append="hdd=ide-scsi"
into the line in lilo.conf. however, it doesn't seem to work for me. the
mnt/cdrom1 still be the only way to access my cdrw and i cannot mount
the /dev/scd0 while a disk is presence in the drive.
as the howto says, the ide is loaded as modules and it says the
change above wouldn't help. it suggest another way instead.
put the following in the modules.conf. however there is no such file
so i made one and filled it with:
options ide-cd ignore=hdb
alias scd0 sr_mod
pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi
pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi
pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd
===================================
however, it doesn't seem to work neither because i still couldn't mount
the cdrw with mount /dev/scd0
so now, i still don't have a clue how to make it work.

Hmm. Report this over on the gimp-print's forums at
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net. If there's a real build problem,
they'll want to know, and if not, they'll be able to help you.

There should be other ways around this, too. I have a bunch of machines
with these 3Com cards in them. I got them to be recognized right away
by Linux, so I could install via ftp, by changing the settings in the
bios. For my rigs, I changed the settings for IRQ 10 to "legacy ISA"
instead of PNP in the bios. The cards were then recognized right away.
I didn't have to do anything to conf.modules, or write any funky
scripts.

Better OpenGL support, including hardware accel in some drivers. I think
the NVidia ones are version 1.2 OpenGL, while older X is 1.1. Do you

Thanks for the suggestion regarding "noapic". Since posting my
original request for info I have found a few referrence to the
gigabyte DX586 motherboard. I don't know what chipset it uses.
It seems that iDX586 works fine if no ide devices are used ie SCSI
based disks. But all comments from users with ide hard disks report
the lost interrupts and if they are using the newer 2.3 kernels or 2.4
kernels then APIC errors are seen in large numbers when under heavy
load. Some reports suggest that after a number of hours of this it
falls over.
I have tried the "noapic" kernel setting with 2.2.16, 2.2.17,
2.4.0.test8. The lost interrupt doesn't occur. The APIC errors do
still occur under heavy load but much fewer than without the "noapic".
I have not tested it under load for any extended period to know if the
crashes still occur

XFree86 4.0.1 does using DRI. You will need to get a kernel module r128.o
working first though.

You might want to list your configuration here (How many drives and where,
where is LILO, lilo.conf??).
You may also want to consider the kernel option "Boot offboard chipsets
first support". It's in the IDE section of config.
