You really have to be careful when asking for this kind of information.
Many of the replies you get are garbage. If you're looking for QUALITY,
go with 3COM. I'd recommend the 3C905B. I use them exclusively on both
Windows and Linux boxes, have used hundreds of them. They work
flawlessly, and are faster than anything else on the market.
Furthermore, they are guaranteed for LIFE--no questions asked. If one
fails, send it back and they'll send you another one. I've only had one
fail out of over 200 cards over a period of 3 years.

Also, for the idiot that said they don't provide drivers for Linux:

http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/3c905b.htm

Not sure why anyone would need them, as the Linux kernel supports most
3COM NICs including the 3C905B.

Now why would anybody spend $70 on a 3C905C-TX-M 3Com adapter when superior
performance can be had for $20 Linksys LNE100TX?

You can buy 3 Linksys and still have enough money for a few beers after work
for the price of a single 3COM of equal capability.

The 3COM DO NOT outperform the Linksys in Linux (or Windows AFAIK)!

I have never had a Linksys fail but then I haven't installed 100s of them.

The Linksys also features a lifetime warranty but quite frankly that is of
limited value as the true expense will be the cost of replacing the NIC and
the downtime associated with any such event.

I stand by my statement that 3COM are overpriced and under supported.

Just one guy's opinion.

Best regards,

The infamous "Brian"

Hi All

I have the Tyan Tiger 1834D (2 Processor) MB, it has the via chipset. Has
anyone sucessfully got lm_sensors to work with it?

I have RH 7 -- I have compiled the latest kernel (2.4-test9) and applied the

luck. When I run sensors I get something like no /proc file.

Can anyone help?

Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2000 09:28:24 +0200

hello folks,

Since 3 days I'm playing around with a Aims Lab RadioTrack device which I'm
trying to install under RedHat 6.1 for my Cajun in my car. I just don't know
how to get it to work and/or to test it in an easy way. The things I found
is that I should use V4L with the following commands:

insmod videodev
insmod radio-aimslab io=0x...

the problem is that I don't know which I/O settings to use and that I don't
know how to check if the settings I used are correct. with some devices you
can do a "cat /dev/device_name" but /dev/radio just gives something like
"device not found".

Can anyone maybe help me out with this ? I ain't very familiar with V4L and
am a just a user not a pro.

Greetings & Thanx in advance,

Wil Beeren

Well I was running Red Hat 6.2 and now I am running redhat 7. To get sounds
to work with the a SB Live card just open up System Properties under
Xwindows and click Enable Sounds on Startup and then goto the Sound Mixer
under X Windows and adjust the properties there and when You goto Exit
windows just make sure to save settings before exiting X.. I don't have any
problems with SB Live under Linux, and after Red Hat 6.2 the SB Live driver
is in the OS..

I had the same problem, same disk but I used 6.2. Came to find out I had a
bad cluster. Disk Manager that comes with these drives, downloadable at
Seagate, could zero fill the drive, low level format but could not pass the
surface test at 91% completion.

Do you have the same problem?

Hi,

I own a Abit BP6 with 2 Intel Celeron 466. And it's a non expensive system -
but fast. The Problem should be to get 2 of the "old" celeron's for the board
(i believe up to celeron 500 it will work). With a Nvidia TNT2 and 128 mb all
works fine.

I have a Redhat 6.0 PCMCIA .o file. If I do a strings lnax100.o,
(advised on a previous post), I get the O/P below, would anyone know
what driver this is and where I can get the source as I am running SuSE
6.3. It is a 10/100Tbase Ethernet card.

I got the driver on a disk and have no idea what chip set is on the card
and the company I got it from will not reply to any calls/emails.

Initially, when I put my PCMCIA card in it beeped low then high and had
loaded a memory_cs module. After removing all references to memory
devices, it beeps low when I insert the card, but loads nothing!! Any
suggestions on this? Hoping to get the source and compile it for SuSE
6.3 and hope this helps?

Thanks

Leo

Cooker has a late model of the 2.2.17 kernel. Don't see one for the

I'm back to printing with the ole setup 100%. A new ink cartridge was

The latest wmppp clone is called wmPPPMeter. Strange name. Anyway, I
can't
get to start a session. The good news is after a connect with wvdial,
wmPPPMeter
shows the connect speed for one minute before showing the throughput
rate.
One of the reason I wanted to use the wmppp/yawmppp/wmPPPMeter clique.

I actually started with the RH70 beta install. Wasn't stable, but not
as unstable as RH70 final. In my beta install, I had the network
interface share interrupt with my USB port. In my final setup, USB was
shared with the nvidia driver. As the nvidia generates many more
interrupts than my network interface, I can see why my system got more
unstable.

Disabling USB reduces the crashes to near zero. It's not easy to say
zero as this would require weeks of uptime to be sure.

But my latest discovery showed that the agpgart module might be the
culprit (according to the kernel crash log), but it is not actually
used, just loaded. I have disabled AGP in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
file.

I am wondering what is really the problem...

Does anyone here know what to do?

My main card is an IOI-9100UW (Works fine).

How does one control devices on a second controller in general.

You need to know the router's IP address and then set that address as
your default gateway (assuming that's what it is). I'm assuming that all
other IP configuration is correct (ie you've set up your IP address or
indicated that it's to come from a DHCP server).

Well, when we plugged IBM-DDRS-34560D-DC1B drives into Sun SS4 computers
we had to strap them to SE before the drives would be recognised. I don't
know if it was the drive or the computer at fault - I was just happy that
the drive had a SE jumper (admittedly it was a problem finding 10 tiny jumpers
at short notice - normal sized ones we had plenty of).

Yes, on the XFree Homepages it says, that the 4.0.1 version does not
yet support the S3 cards other than the S3 Virge.
We either need to install XFree86 3.x, or wait for a new 4.x version,
with support for the other S3 cards.
