Depends on what kernel you are tied to. The latest 2.4.0 test kernels
support a whole slew of chipsets. I am using Promise Ultra100s and it
was simply a matter of selecting that chipset from a long list while
going through the menuconfig.

Try:

pnpdump -c 0x273 > /etc/isapnp.conf

I have noticed a problem with some revisions of pnpdump and Sound Blaster
cards. My guess is that pnpdump gets hung up trying to probe IO port 0x203,
which belongs to the game port.

OK. Here's my exact experience with the 29160 in the hope that it may
be of help.

On a box with no OS and the only drives are an ide cdrom for
installation and a Quantum atlas V 9gb connected to the 29160. I
installed Slackware 7 with kernel 2.2.13 (bone stock) and it ran
without issue. Not willing to leave well enough alone, I compiled
2.2.12 with vegas patch and among other things: the aic7xxx module.

It died a horrible death on boot, giving "tons of error messages" just
like you saw on yours. So to make a long story short, I compiled 2.2.18
with all my regular stuff and the aic7xxx module. It's as close to
perfect as I care to make it. (And I didn't even have to involve
blessing goats etc)

Best of luck to you. Try compiling 2.2.18. That's a great card and it
does work.

cheers... Darren

Red Hat 6.2

I reciently got two serial devices. A digital camera, and palm pilot.
They both work fine when placed on /dev/ttyS0, but did not function at
all on /dev/ttyS1. I realized that my /dev/ttyS1 was pointing to my
/dev/modem. I adjusted my modem to work on /dev/ttyS3 and made the
adjustment in Linux. Now my modem works, and anything on /dev/ttyS0
works. But I cannot get anything else to work on /dev/ttyS1. What
could be causing this? I've checked my bios and cannot find anything
related to my COM Ports there.

I write several GB of backups daily to VXA-1. You may, of course, have
a broken drive, but I would explore the cabling and SCSI controller.
Basic PCI controllers and spare cables are cheap, and useful to have

Try shift partion numbers by 1 up. It seems to me that Partition Magic created
one extra partition on free available disk space. (check it through fdisk)
