Jim, I would expect that card is supported by Linux out-of-the-box, and so no
compiling would be needed.

What happened after you put in the card (I guess it is PCI) and you started
Linux? Wasn't it detected by Kudzu / Linux? If it was detected you should be
able to configure it using 'linuxconf'.

Hi everyone,

I need documentation for a Dynalink modem, the model is 1428VQH-T.
It uses an AT&T HSM288xCF/CL2 chip. (Really, I've been looking
everywhere but can't find anything about it)
My special interest is the fax class 2 command set, because I want
to run the Hylafax software with it.

Any help will be very welcome.

Either the drives are failing, or a fan has a problem. Fans tend to
collect dust, so one of the things you might want to do is remove the
cover, and clean out any dust/debris from the fans. If there is a fan
near the hard drives, they tend to blow dust into the hard drive area as
well. Clean them out, then see if it is really the drive or a fan that
is dying.

Hello,

I had kind of the same problem, to measure the temperature in a bunch of
19" cabinets...

It should be done with linux of course, I found this solution, which
works like a charm:

I use the 2.0 version, I had a bit trouble finding the parts from Dallas
I needed. I wrote them a nice mail
asking where I could get the parts here in germany and mentioned, that I
would like to use the sw
from http://www.nexuscomputing.com/ . I got a nice answer from Dallas and
a few days later all the parts I needed
as gift...:-)

You can add up hundrets of sensors on one serial port if you want, each
has a unique ID which is read out by
the digitemp sw...:-)

I read it out with perl and write it to a mysql db, had no time yet to do
more with the data...:-(

Could be a way for you to go, if you are able to get those parts.

This happened to me as well, but the noise was caused by some gunk in the
fan of the power supply.

I have a UDMA hard disk. I do the steps according to linux howto.
but I input the command line when installation

"linux ide2=0xd800,0xdc02"

it alawys give me the messages

"Unknown option 'ide2=0xd800, 0sdc02'"

it seems that it does not know this option yet. I don't know what's wrong. I 
just did what I am told by the linux howto. it doesn't work. the result is 
the installation cannot find my hard disk at all.

You have to add support for cdrom, disk, etc. in the kernel options. If
you build support in the kernel (preferred) there is no need for startup
settings. It is a PCI device and it is configured by the BIOS.

OK, I have not checked it, but it would really surprise me. Anyway,
first you have to search to see if it exists befor recompiling your
kernel.
find /lib/modules -name ide-scsi.o -ls
if this finds nothing, then perhaps you need to recompile. Although it
would still surprise me. Are you sure it is not on some rpm which is not
the kernel rpm? 

It certainly is on Mandrake distros from 6.1 on. What about for others?
If Redhat does not include it, they sure should! Enough people use
cdrecord for it to made a standard.

Not sure what you mean. works fine on an 1024x768 screen here. Now, it
may be that the default size is greater than 640x400. 
You can also use cdrecord from the command line
cdrecord -speed=4 -dev=1,0,0 name_of_the.iso
(speed less than or equal to the writing speed of your CDR, and dev is
teh number listed whenyou run
cdrecord -scanbus
as root.)

Probably it's nothing alarming. Fan will produce strange noises after you
turn on your computer after it spent some time in cold place. Noise will go
off after few minutes...

If you can't ping yourself from your own system, you probably have a
routing problem. Try 'route -n' and your route table should basically
look like:

Kernel IP routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags Metric Ref    Use Iface
192.168.2.0     0.0.0.0         255.255.255.0   U     0      0        0 eth0
0.0.0.0         192.168.2.1     0.0.0.0         UG    0      0        0 eth0

and perhaps a couple of other lines like
192.168.2.2     0.0.0.0                 255.255.255.255 . . . . .                      
         eth0
127.0.0.0       0.0.0.0                 255.0.0.0       . . . . . .                    
                         lo

If you see anything but eth0 or lo in the device column, that could
explain it. Otherwise look for a typo in:

/etc/sysconfig/network
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lo

A common mistake is to make a file like 'ifcfg-eth0.bak' in the
network-scripts directory. That confuses redhat, so if you have any other
files in network-scripts that start with 'ifcfg', delete them or move them
to another directory.

When testing your own network, be sure to always include a -n to the ping
command.

By default, if you have a /etc/isapnp.conf file, it gets read on bootup
automatically. So if you're running isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf again, you
will see some errors. Try this:

rm /etc/isapnp.conf
rm /etc/isapnp.gone
Reboot
pnpdump -c > /etc/isapnp.conf
isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf (you won't need to run it again (if it
works))
Plug the values you get into modprobe sb.

If the IRQ you get still seems to conflict, try setting it to 'Legacy
ISA' in the BIOS.

I recently had a run in with a Deskjet on a Bebian system. After looking
through the logs in /var/log/lp* I discovered that you have to install a
djtools package. Perhaps that's your problem. If not, look through your
logs files for more specific errors.

Help!

I made a CD-RW full of my favorite mp3s using a friend's internet
connection (and windows machine).  Adaptec Easy CD creator 4.5, I
think.  Problem is, I can't read it on my linux laptop.  I'm running
SuSE 7.0 on a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop, got both GNOME and KDE2, and
I've tried every mount / umount trick in the how-tos but I still can't
get any files off the CD.

Computers running windows can read the CD fine, though.  I figure it's
got to be a vfat filesystem, but I'm out of ideas.  Any help would be
greatly appreciated.
