Anyone heard of a utility or driver to mount the floppy adapter for the
sony memory stick? Seems like you should be able to just mount it with
the right device details.

We had a similar problem on one of our networks. I wasn't the admin then,
so I don't remember all the gritty details, but I remember the what and the
why. We run a RH6.2 deritive on all our machines, about 200 workstations and
3 servers. The main fileserver (NFS) was running a modified RH6.2 with
a journaling filesystem. We experienced the same symptoms you described:
everything worked fine as long as NFS requests were light. When things
got heavy too heavy, the main fileserver stopped responding and the whole
network came to an abrupt halt.
The problem was somewhere in the journaling FS, I believe, because once we
set the fileserver to running just a no-frills ext2 FS, all our problems
went away. Completely.
I realize that this is just a shot in the dark: chances are your
problem is entirely different, but I just figured I'd throw out the
suggestion: every little bit helps.
BTW, were now running NFS servers and workstations on the 2.2.17 kernel
with quite heavy network traffic and are experiencing virtually no
problems with it.

I already wrote to them, but they said, that there is no support for
this model anymore (it's too old :(
I tried several things yesterday:
* Setting the 32GB limitation jumper helped, but this makes linux
believe, it's only 32gb * Setting the 32GB limitation jumper, then
removing it didn't work (drive seems to check
it only on "bootup"
* Setting the 32GB limitation jumper, then powering off the drive while
lilo is waiting
for input, then removing the jumper and power the drive on didn't
work, too :(
(DMA errors in linux, drive was not accessible)
so what? Is there really no possibility to tell this PIIX4 Chipset to
enable DMA (even if the BIOS didn't do so??

My Matrox G400 works fine with my DK440LX motherboard. My monitor
can't handle 1600x1200 so I don't have first hand evidence of whether
the card is fast enough for you. However, I know that the card's dot
clock goes up to 300 MHz, so you can work out what's possible from that.

Well the CD-ROM is connected as the only device on the VIA-IDE bus as
primary master. The HDDs are on the VIA. But it doesnt matter where I
connect them. The result is the same - even if I boot from floppy with only
one HDD on promise or via with no CD-ROM connected.
Are there any kernel options that give more verbose information?

If I can help more I will, but much of the process is probably just

Be careful with this, as there are several serial controllers connected
to the bus, and you need to know that this is the correct one. Keep in
mind that there is hardware on the PCI bus (lots) that is NOT an add-on
card. If the entry disappears when you pull the card and boot without
it, probably you found it.
>

This might require a space between the "-d" and "127a:1002". Not sure if
it will matter. For no particular reason than my own idea of
convenience, I would probably use in place of "-d" the "-s"
identification (also it is how the newer X servers identify PCI slots).
The listing you show has Bus 0, device 15, function 0 within the device.
This would interpret as:
setpci -s 0:15.0
Unfortunately, I don't know if this particular addres of 0x3e8 will work
or not. You probably could be more successful initially by using
setserial to set the serial port to the modem (try it after a setserial,
regardless of whether it says the irq changed or not); if this works,
then you could try to maneuver the modem via setpci. One way to test is
by setting up minicom, telling it to simply pick up the phone.

The notation 0:15.0 might give you more luck; but even more likely, the
missing space after the "-d" was a problem. Hope this narrows things
somewhat.

Hi everybody,
I need to setup a backup server for a small network, and I would appreciate
some advices about tape drives and adapter needed to use them.
I need a low cost solution for saving nightly less than 20Go of data, the
speed is not critical, and tapes can be changed every day (no need for an
autoloader).
Which tape drives are easy to install (driver supported in standard in
recent distributions) and low cost?
Thank you for sharing any experience with Linux and Backup.

Subject: HP 9150i (OS says 9100b) writing audio problems - technical
Date: 15 Feb 2001 10:57:36 GMT
Hi,
I'm looking for people who bought a HP 9150i CD-writer and are using it under Linux.
I also have a HP 9100i which works perfectly under Linux. The HP 9150i writes data
CD's perfectly,
but it cannot write audio cd's, failing immediately in the burning process.
Here's what I found out up till now :
* The HP 9150i CD-writer shows up under Windows 98 (in Devices) and under Linux as a
HP9100b
* For some reason, this is a totally different drive than the 9100i
* You can tell the difference between the two using the firmware :
- 9100i drives have firmware revisions 1.0a/1.0b/1.0c
- 9150i drives have firmware revisions 1.06/1.07/...
* There are at least three different hardware manufacturers used for the HP9150i (LG,
Sony, and another one, if I recall correctly)
* The HP9150i will not work under Easy CD Creator, only with the included (and crap)
MyCD software
(which doesn't even seem to allow for a simulation burn !)
* Both drives (the real HP9100i and the new HP9150i which is labeled in the OS as
HP9100b) say "CD Writer Plus 9100 series" on the front)
* Customer Support at HP tells me that the reason the HP9150i isn't working under Easy
CD Creator is because of some new extensions to the
cd-writing protocol.
So here's what I'd like to know :
* Is there anyone using a HP9150i under Linux ?
* Can you write data cd's with cdrecord ?
* Can you write audio cd's with cdrecord ?
* What would be the "protocol extensions" HP claims makes the drives different ?
* Why would HP make such a drastic change to the hardware (i.e. not making it fully
scsi/mmr compatible) ?
I have a pretty good knowledge of Linux so you can make it as technical as you like.
Please reply to me privately as well as on the newsgroup.

I had some recent experience with being tortured by amd automounter.
What I did to fix my problems was a) compile recent amd source
from http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~ezk/am-utils/
b) compile kernel without builtin nfs-server and without
nfs version 3 and without automounter
c) install user-space nfs. I can't tell you unfortunately
which of those things was necessary or which will help you
with your RH7.

Hi all,
I have an ASUS 256 DDR Deluxe card, based on an Nvidia geforce.
I run Linux, and downloaded and installed the driver supplied

The windows drivers supplied by Asus allow stereo using

I have written several openGL visualizations

Anyone got this working?

Hi, I can write both data and audio CD's using my HP9150i burner. I use
xcdroast, which is basically a front-end for cdrecord. So, though I haven't
yet tried using cdrecord directly, I'm pretty sure it would work. FWIW,
have you obtained the latest versions of the relevant programs? You can get
