Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 19:38:32 GMT
I was interesting in finding a camera's which is compatible with Linux.
This would be one of those digital camera's which isn't very expensive
but can be used to send pictures across the internet. I'm at a lose for
words here, I've seen cameras like this for Win computers which are
under a $100 and they have about a 6 to 10 ft. cable which connects to
the computer.
I believe that Linux Journal and/or Linux mag had a review of some
lately but I can't find the issue.
Would like this to be easy to install.

I'm sorry. Compaq's desktop-level machines are poorly put together
for the most part, and I'd advise everyone to stay away from them.
>My sound card ES1869 (Linux Sound HOWTO says its supported). RH6.2
>Does not specify it.How do i make it work , i am trying for the past 2

(This is taken from kernel 2.2.18 , you may want to upgrade your kernel
to that version anyway since the default that shipped with RH 6.2 is
pretty old and has a [difficult to exploit] security hole.)
modprobe sb irq=X dma=Y io=0xZZZ esstype=1869
X is almost always 5. ZZZ is almost always 220. Y is usually 0 or 1.
If you're not sure of the values there, the Device Manager in Doze can
tell you what they are.
What do you mean "no help"? Did you go to http://google.com/ and search
for "linux ess1869"? Did you check http://linhardware.com/ or
http://linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/ ? There's beaucoup information out there;
you have to go out and look for it though.
>My printer EPSON Stylus color 640 . Same problem.
http://linuxprinting.org/ ? http://groups.google.com/ and search this
NG for "stylus color 640"? The Goddess helps those who help themselves,
y'know.

I need a little help with a really simple issue, but one
I can't answer on my own because I don't have the hardware.
I need to know the exact amount of free space shown by the
"df" command under Linux for a 250MB Zip disk, VFAT
formatted, with no files at all on the disk.
First answer that everyone else agrees is right earns
25 bonus karma points. <g>

Which type of RAID controller is this? Most of the PERC-2 series are
supported by the AMI Megaraid module, which is on the SuSE 7.0 "modules"
floppy disk under "SCSI modules" with the name "megaraid.o". I have no
doubt that SuSE 7.1 has the same module available. Theoretically, you
should be able to load the megaraid module, and then the disks attached
to the RAID controller would show up as one very large /dev/sd? device
or possibly a very large /dev/md? device.
I don't know where this module is on the SuSE CD-ROMs, but once you've
booted the CD-ROM, you could try Ctrl-Alt-Fing over to another virtual
console and doing a "modprobe megaraid"... if that doesn't work, pop in
the Modules floppy, mount it, copy the scsi-mod.gz file to somewhere,
gunzip it, mount that file (sigh), and you'll find megaraid.o in there.

With MD 7.2 2.2.17MDK it works fine, but when I upgrade to 2.4.2 it doesn't.
I have enabled ISDN support and enabled ppp Asnyc and all compresions as

As found on Google:
'The lp0 on fire message simply means that the kernel can't figure out the
printer status. The fire bit is an old joke.'
I've seen this when the printer was on, but 'paused' or off-line.

What are the chances of getting a 3Com/MHz 3CXM356 WinModem and/or a

Have you looked in the /usr/src/linux-2.4.2/DOcumentation/Changes file
and seen the advisory there that says "upgrade pppd to 2.4.0b1 at least,
otherwise PPP won't work with 2.4.x kernels"? If you haven't upgraded
your pppd, do so... if you have, then we'll probably need more

I've got a KT-7 here that's been working just fine with Linux for almost
a month. No problems at all. If the KT7-A is the one with onboard
HPT370 RAID, you will probably have to do some dancing around to install
Linux and use the RAID features: Hook a drive to the UDMA/66
controller, install there, compile a kernel with HPT370 support and RAID
support, then use that kernel. Full info can be had by searching Google
for "HPT370 Linux". HTH,

My brand-new USB Zip drive came with a Zip disk preformatted for FAT.
It has 244,464 blocks of 1024 bytes on the disk, as reported by df.
(The original disk has a file, but when it's removed, no blocks are in
use according to df -- df obviously isn't reporting blocks consumed by
the FAT, the root directory, etc.) This is one of the new Zip
"titanium" disks (with the rounded end, rather than the older
square-end design). I don't know if this detail is important.

I can start doing it.
Take care. Thank you again.
George
