Well, they have Domino Server, Notes Server, and they have IBM Websphere running
on Linux using wine (that is, IBM Websphere). Even if they released a wine
version of Lotus Smart Suite (in the short term), then in the long term, they port
it properly over to Linux, you would find that more users would move to Linux,
I know one place, Australia Surf Life Saving that use Lotus Smart Suite for their
Office Suite, which would benefit from it being ported to Linux, and knowing one
of the directors there, he is quite keep to cut costs, and is open to new ideas
and concepts. Maybe this could be a new avenue Lotus should go down.

Dear all,
when I put an Audio CDROM in the player I got the followin behavior :

2) with gtcd : it play the first track and stop !
any hint ?
could it be related to :
a) the kernel ?
b) the modules loaded ?
c) the X player ?

Subject: MSI K7T motherboard problems (VIA KT133 chipset)
Date: 27 Mar 2001 11:22:59 +0200
Just curious whether anyone has had any problems with MSI K7T(Pro)
motherboards for Athlons/Durons (or, possibly, the VIA KT133 chipset):
At my department we have by now 5(!) such machines that have died
suddenly: The machine runs normally, *no* sign of any problems (i.e.,
syslog messages or unexplained crashes), then the screen goes black
and the motherboard is history (all status LEDs on the board are plain
red). Four of these machines were bought together last summer, so for
these I accept a bad batch of motherboards as explanation. But
another machine, bought around Christmas has died as well. All
machines were severely stress tested immediately after the purchase
and have been running since then under average load for our group
(they run 24hours a day, about half the time they are used for long
number crunching jobs)
Aside from general curiosity, is anyone aware of (hidden) kernel problems
with the via kt133 chipset? The machines were running 2.2.16 or 2.2.18
(the latter is necessary to get the agpgart module working)
Thanks,
Stefan

I have a PC with MicroChannel Architecture ( MCA ) mainboard and SCSI disks.
My machine runs fine with slackware Linux, no problem : slackware provides a
kernel, on the web, for MCA machines
But I have other problems with SAMBA, Internet, dialling, ... so : I will
this machine goes running SUSE ( 'cause I have SUSE too, that is simpliest
for all that stuff ).
BUT ... how can I obtain a kernel for MCA under SUSE 7.0 : nothing found on
the SUSE site, and nothing in support or knowledge databases.
Who can help me please.
Thank for help.

Ok, After banging my head against the wall on this one for a few hours I
finally got it to work. I was having the exact same problems mentioned
below (dereferencing pointers, etc...)
I'm not a linux guru or anything so please bare with what was probably a
sloppy method. It worked though.
First I downloaded the most recent driver from the netgear home page:
http://www.netgear-support.com/ts/downloads/fa311lx.zip
I extracted the file, then executed the following commands
del FA311.O
mv FA311.H fa311.h
mv FA311.C fa311.c
make
/usr/include/linux/modversions.h:1:2: #error Modules should never use
kernel-headers system headers.
/usr/include/linux/modversions.h:2:2: #error but headers from an
appropriate kernel-source
It didn't work of course, so I did this:
mv /usr/include /usr/oldinclude
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include /usr/include
then again,
make
this time I only got a warning
/tmp/ccBAFORL.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/ccBAFORL.s:19: Warning: Ignoring changed section attributes for
.modinfo
then undo renaming...
rm /usr/include
mv /usr/oldinclude /usr/include
finally..
mv fa311.o /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/net
/etc/init.d/network stop
insmod fa311
/etc/init.d/network start
...edit /etc/modules.conf
I did all this on a Redhat 7.0 system.
I hope this helps a least someone.

Where can I find a list of all hardware that is supported by linux?
If there isn't such a list please what hardware can gives conflicts:
- Alcatel USB Modem
- Epson Stylus Color 400
- HP 8200 Cd-rewriter
- Lite-on 12x DVD-Rom
- Geforce Pro from Hercules (Guillemot)
- Abit mobo (with on-board sound)
- Realtek 10/100 (Level One)
- Matrox HD (30Gb)
- Seagate HD (45 Gb)
I'm the most affraid from the ADSL Modem, the soundcard on the mobo and the
network card. I'm not capable to write my own drivers (I can program in C
but not SO good)

Get the Linux kernel source code, and recompile it with MCA support enable

Hello everybody,
If somebody can help me please send me a reply via E-mail.
I installed to my PC Linux Suse 7.1 and I chose the kernel 2.4.
Linux was installed on a clean hardisk and the installation was normal to "
/" root.
The modem installation files are in "/modem/".
My problem are two words in the modem installation text
"kernel-headers-version" and
"kernel-sources-version". How do i write correctly the following paths
correctly for Suse Linux?
The modem requires the 2 following settings (paths);
====================================================
A symbolic link is necessary, made with:
ln -s /usr/src/kernel-headers-version /usr/src/linux
=====================================================
How do i write the above command line correctly?
======================================================
After installation of the sources folder somewhere, set the
following MANDATORY symbolic link as Root, and with the
text on one line:
ln -sf /PATHtoFolderWith/kernel-sources-version/
/usr/src/linux
This linkage is Necessary both for compiling ltmodem.o through its own
Makefile, and for compiling custom kernels.

How do i write the above command line correctly?

Subject: Help! CDRecord - mp3-to-wav Conversion Problem!
Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 14:11:36 GMT
Hello All;
I'm using some instructions I found in an earlier post to try to
convert some mp3's to wav and burn them to a CD using cdrecord. I
have come across a problem that was not addressed.
I convert the mp3 files to wave with:
splay -t 1000 -d - file.mp3 | sox -t raw -r 44100 -s -w -c 2 -
file.wav
I issue this command to burn the data:
cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,0,0 -audio *.wav
But, cdrecord responds with:
cdrecord: Bad audio track size 31707648 for track 01.
cdrecord: Audio tracks must be at least 705600 bytes and a multiple of
2352.
I can burn audio CD's normally if I get the data using the cdda2wav
utility.
Any pointer would be appreciated as to how I should change the size of
the resulting wav file, I didn't see an obvious switch in the splay or
sox commands.
Thanks in advance.
PS. I realize I can probably install some other utilities to do this
BUT this solution is supposed to work and until I understand what is
wrong here I'd like to try and make this approach work. Also, using
this method I can batch process files a lot easier.

There's a patch for this at Compaq. It's in the Compaq documentation.
Go to:

Note, 2.4.2-ac25, which is Alan Cox's set of patches against 2.4.2 (and
presumably others in the -AC series) has a native frame buffer driver for the
radeon. Since I don't have a radeon, I can't say how well it works.

I have a LinkSys EFSP42, which is a 4 port ethernet switch and 2 port print
server combination box that was roughly $130, and it doesn't need a netBios
station to print from either Windows or Linux. I must admit, it works great
for one of my printers (Lexmark Optra 40), and only so-so for my other (Okidata
20dxn). The problem seems to be the Linksys doesn't have an option to close
the port at the end of the job, leaves the printer waiting for more input, and
eventually timing out.
Of course this being a Linux group, another option is to enable SMB support on
a Linux box, and add additional LPT ports and use it as a print server.

Another option is to use the wave output option on xmms.
You can load your playlist and dump all output to files.
