Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I've been trying to set up a USB-scanner on SuSE Linux 7.1...i think i'm
almost there, usb started, all required modules loaded, usbview shows the
exact data of my scanner.
But when i start xsane, scanimage, whatever: my scanner is not recognized.
very strange: i have two devs in /dev:
/dev/usbscanner and /dev/usbscanner0

if i use /dev/usbscanner in /etc/sane.d/epson.conf, the output of xsane is:
xsane: nodevices available
if i use /dev/usbscanner0 in /etc/sane.d/epson.conf, xsane hangs, only
brute kill helps.

but i know the scanner works...i had it running on RedHat7.0...
i know about the problems with suse7.1 stated at
http://www.freecolormanagement.com/sane/suse71.html, followed the
step-by-step-tutorial...but it still does not work.

Any help appreciated, Daniel (<-almost desperate)
some information (i get a lot of error messages i am not able to solve):

Just enter a single key word and submit for maximum results.

While I am not the author of this excellent application I modified it to
work with PHP4 and increased it's search capability, am hosting it on
one of my corporate servers.

I have set it up to benefit Linux users.

History:
I've much enjoyed working and learning Linux specifically Mandrake. I
wanted to give something back to the GPL, GNU, OpenSource community.

April 13, 2001 I setup this application on my dev1 machine after a week
I moved it to my production machine. A month later I started capturing
news posts for many more news groups effectively doubling the size of
the database.

Yesterday, May 15, 2001 I opened the system up to allow searching on a
dozen news groups.

There is an email address on the site to make requests or notify me of

I am always looking for LAMP work so if you know of anyone requiring

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm having constant problems with my system, which is built around
this board and an Athlon 850. Specifically, I can't install linux (or
win2000, although 95 and 98 work with minimal stability). I've tried
many distros, although the intended distro is SuSE 7.1. After booting
from the cdrom, the install hangs when it tries to start X or before
that, when it reads 'registering RAID personalities.' It gets to RAID5
MMX checksumming and hangs. This is not harddisk RAID, since this board
doesn't have that. Additionally, I was under the impression that MMX
was an Intel thing. SuSE 7.1 uses kernel 2.2.18 for installation, I
think. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to read them.

Chris

You can buy boxes too, it's just cheaper to do it yourself. Many
(complete) computers sold on eBay come with Linux, to avoid licensing
problems with non-free OSes.
