Netstat freezing...

Sometimes when I run netstat it will print a few of the connections, and then it
will pause for sometimes as long as a minute.  I am running a RH 5.0
installation.  My kernel is 2.0.31 (old but not ancient).  It is using one of
Boca's NE2000 compatible cards.  Does anyone have any ideas why it might pause
like this?
