This is *very bad advice* *unless* you compiled GNOME2 yourself. Otherwise, please send the bug reports to your vendor (Debian or Red Hat). Distributions communicate with the upstream developers when they need to, but since they add patches and so on, it is better to let your vendor contact your upstream for you. In addition, this way your vendor knows which programs are problematic, and even which versions are problematic, which goes a long way towards helping get a high quality stable release.
