I have a Panasonic Digital video camera that has the following ports:
1) AV Input/Output the cable ends in 3 RCA connectors
2) S-Video
3) I.DV also called I.Link which looks like a small USB and if I am not
mistaken this is a firewire connection.
The manual sais this is a DV Input/Output Terminal (i.LINK 4-pin)
If I understand correctly 1) and 2) send analog signals and 3) sends
digital signal. (correct me if I am totally mistaken here) though
I don't understand what is the difference between 1) and 2) but I
guess this is OT.
I could manage to connect the 3 RCA connectors to a computer with XP
on it and we could even see the video from the camera and hear the
voice but could record only the pictures.
We'll go on that path but I also would like to transfer the video to my
notebook running linux.
I have a USB connector but TV receiver card nor Firewire connector.
Now comes my real question:
Do you have experience with firewire in linux and specifically on
notebooks and even more specifically connecting video camera to
such an animal ?
I have found that firewire has experimental support in 2.4.18
so I guess it is ok but can I use it with a PCMCIA firewire card ?
Which one ? Where to buy ?
